This is how you run Satisfactory 0.8.3.3 (on windows)

Note: This is mostly the guide from the wiki, with one new extra step at the end. SMM won't see the install when done my way, because I kept it as simple as possible.
Note: When a line has something like [blablabla], copy and paste everything BETWEEN the square brackets, not the brackets.
Open steam.
Press win-r (open the windows run menu), and paste [steam://open/console], then press enter.
Steam will open a new window called "console".
Paste this command into that console: [download_depot 526870 526871 3783838377491884235]
This will take a while, and may be slower than normal steam downloads. Also, it has no progress bar. For me, it stalled for a long time at < 0.1mbps and then suddenly completed.
If you get weird errors, just try to download it again. It will probably work eventually, nothing you can do to help it.
When it finishes, there will be a little message in the console window telling you where it downloaded the game to. It will be a folder something like [D:\games\Steam\steamapps\content\app_526870]
If you have existing mods, copy the folders Mod and Config from the normal Steam\steamapps\common\Satisfactory\FactoryGame folder into the appropriate folders of the 8.3.3 download.
New step:
Create a shortcut to the 8.3.3 FactoryGame.exe wherever is convenient for you.
Add the argument -NoSteamClient to your shortcut. (in properties.) It should look something like ["D:\games\Steam\steamapps\content\app_526870\FactoryGame.exe" -NoSteamClient]
Move your 8.3.3 folder somewhere Steam won't mess it up.
Final note: If you want the ability to run SMM again to manage your mods, you'll need to replace the proper Steam download of the game with your 8.3.3 copy, and try to keep Steam from replacing it. You should be able to run the game from any folder without steam, as long as it has the -NoSteamClient argument.

i have no config folder, so i dont know where to get that. i dont know if the version i downloaded from the console is even 0.8 anymore, nor how to stop it from updating.

The version you downloaded to the weird folder should have FactoryGame.exe, which would be 8.3.3
yes, but i had error messages, and @NumberNegative told me to verify file integrity, and i dont know if the file has updated or not
Verifying integrity only works on the release version, no good here
and after that, how do i work the mod loader because it still thinks the file is 1.0
You'll have to close steam, and move the 8.3.3 folder's contents to where steam normally puts the game. Then the mod manager will see it. (When you turn steam back on, it's gonna try to replace it...)
