did the above steps work to fix it?
Not the OP, but I can tell you none of the above worked: deleted the mods folder, launched the game and restarted SMM, deleted my mod manager profile. I think the only solution is to update SMM for 1.0 as we can't even start SMM to turn off mods from it alone.
