Cotton ripstop jacket use

Hi I recently sort of impulse bought this jacket but upon receiving it and doing some late research I've realised that it doesn't have as much practicality as I expected (waterproof, wind resistance, insulation). I like the look of it after trying it on and it fits well but I can't shake the thought that I've bought something that is kinda pretending to be something it's not, and as a result is kinda stupid? To me it really looks like a functional coat from the outside but in reality if it rains I'd just get soaked even with a hood.. I'm guessing it should be used as light outerwear during the summer but again to me it looks like a coat so I think i might look weird compared to being used during colder seasons. I'm in England so it rains quite often and is usually windy. I bought it on sale and can still return it so I just wanted to get some opinions since I'm unsure on its usage as well as whether or not it was a good purchase value-wise. Thanks. https://www.mrporter.com/en-us/mens/product/kaptain-sunshine/clothing/parkas/camouflage-print-cotton-ripstop-parka/1647597308385035

it does seem a little odd that it's essentially a rain jacket that isn't waterproof, yeah. but it's cool looking.

it does look like its cosplaying as a rain jacket. At the same time the description says 100% cotton and looks very thin. It's my first time seeing it and it looks like a warm weather jacket to me

yeah it is thin and I agree that it's probably meant to be a warm weather jacket. It just for some reason looks like a rain jacket and I'm unsure if it will look good with summer outfits (and if it suddenly rains I'd look kinda silly). Also because of its lack of functionality outside of I guess being a weird summer fashion item and sun protection?, I'm not sure if the cost justifies it. I looked on the Japanese beams website and it's more expensive there even while being half off, I also found it for double the price on a Japanese second hand site but that's the only listing i could find so it might be inaccurate.

Ya fwiw ripstop cotton is not inherently water resistant. It can be treated with a coating to be water resistant, but lots of people have strong opinions about that. It's main use is to be tear-resistant, hence "rip stop." It's just a light jacket tho - worth the price if you like it, not worth it if you don't.

I like it and the material does feel good but whether or not its good value is more important to me which is why I was only looking for big discount items, but those might just be RRP scams xd. I wouldn't want to vastly overpay for anything even if I was in love with it yk? Also I'm new to fashion so I'm kinda just buying what I think will look good. I did google ripstop but I think its mostly for hiking so I don't know if it would be any use if I'm only using it in urban areas/.

i wouldn't say ripstop is onyl for hiking at all i have a bunch of ripstop, i do not hike. it looks cool in addition to being durable

I see, thanks. Do you think the jacket would be a flexible item or would it only work with a few fits? This is probably my most expensive garment purchase in years so I wanna make sure I can use it somewhat often.

i mean it seems like a nice jacket its just not a rain jacket. Kaptain sunshine makes very nice stuff, $200 is a pretty good price
