should I raw hem my new jeans?
Hi,
Not sure on what to do as there's some wear that leans me towards raw hemming (non raw hem won't have wear). Also the belt loops are misaligned. However I'm concerned raw hemming will also make these less versatile.

The lighting is terrible, sorry
The rise is also 12.5" which you can't tell in the pics I don't think!
follow your heart
in a pinch you can roll up the cut hem (or just wear raw hems with more things)
Thank you! Do ya personally think the raw hem will go with like wool jackets?
not a direct analog but raw hem + wool sport coat
Love this!!
Did you just cut at the desired length or did you do more as I see in raw hemming instructions online?
i bought intentionally long jeans and cut at the desired length
for me that was just above the stitching for the hem but your mileage may vary
But no sewing new stitches or anything like that right?
no
Thank you
What's going on with the belt loops?
I'm thinking these were either custom (per someone who knows their stuff) or an odd/defective lot that got let out into the wild
Interesting. It's not a big deal but I've never seen a belt loop pierce a leather patch like that
I wanted to ask about that actually. Is it possible to remove the patch without damaging the belt loop? The patch is very large which idk about
I would remove the belt loop.
It's a paper rather than leather patch
Seems unnecessary
I feel like it sort of has charm tho lol
I think I raw hemmed the legs slightly different lengths bcuz I'm dumb but it goes with the overall character of these jeans lol
Is the hem too short? I could ask my tailor if he can reattach part of the original hem or I could go shorter for different pants shoe interaction
Nah bro it looks maybe slightly long if anything
Most peeps like raw hemmed jeans no break or slightly cropped
With some wear or after a wash they’d unfurl a bit and look better
I’d just like keep them like this and feel it out and chop off more later if you’re not liking them
Reattaching the hem sounds impossible or very scuffed
Really helps thank you!!
Is taking in the waist a possibility with jeans?
I'd like to stop using the second to last belt hole
Btw there's an x on the inside tag so I think these are a defective/odd lot haha
I don’t think it would change what hole on the belt you’d use? You might need to go one hole more since there’d be less fabric to cinch, unless you were planning on being able to wear the jeans beltless
I dunno if you can take them in or not but I’m sure that’s been asked around here before
But I use more belt holes to tighten the waist more right?
Guy at a shoe store told me i shouldn't be going past the second or third hole
I can also shorten the belt too by a hole or two which I'm not sure what will do
yes
to answer your question jeans can be taken in but it's more expensive than finding a power drill and adding another belt hole
i have done this often
Some pants too seem to "fit" better in the further holes though im not sure what that's about
Like aside from tightening the waist
I think it's like a $2 alteration at a cobbler haha
So adding a hole makes the belt shorter or longer?
Oh ok shorter I see
adding a hole will allow you to tighten the waist further
Would you lean towards 1 or 2 new holes if my current belt size is a 32 and my waist size is a 28?
mind you, if you already have spare belt holes that would cause the waist to tighten, then use those
It's less comfortable though!
just so i'm clear
you're currently using the second to last button hole and the last button hole is too uncomfortable
Second to last is a bit uncomfortable too. last button hole doesn't work on these jeans as it cinches too much fabric
Thank you for helping with my trivial questions lol
what is the jean size
29
if you are able to find a cheap 30" belt that would help
That's better than shortening a longer belt to 30"?
to clarify, drilling holes into a belt is not going to change the physical length of the belt
your 32" belt will still be 32 inches regardless of how many holes are in it
Got it thank you
if it is uncomfortable to use the last belt setting buy a shorter belt, that way you wouldn't be using the last belt setting
or if you're in the position where the 'ideal' placement is between two holes on your current belt, drill the hole at that designated spot
Wait I'm reading a cobbler can actually shorten shorten it
It's shortened from the buckle end
take the belt to the cobbler and ask what they can do
Using the last belt holes is more of a belt sizing issue
Like I’m about a 33 waist, if I use a 34 belt it’s always the middle holes no matter what pair of pants I’m wearing
If I use a belt sized like 36 or 38 then I’d have to use the tightest holes
I could technically use the middle holes on a belt that’s too long for me but then it’s kinda sagging and isn’t really on my waist ya know
On my belts I only use a range of like three holes depending on what I’m tucking into my pants
So ya in your case I’d either shorten the belt or find one that’s size 30
Finding one that’s size 30 is probably easier there’s a ton of pretty nice vintage belts on eBay
Thank you that was super helpful!
I'll checkout eBay/thrift and see what the local cobblers have too
Though I may end up shortening my belt bcuz it's a meermin belt (tho a lil wide for a dress belt imo)
