How can i select my road again to edit values? I tried clicking on output mesh and curve but nothing!

Hey @nostrodamned
you don't see the edit icon when you select the road I take it?
Could you record a video? Having the UE log is opened?
Also, check the "show tools" command, if the road tool is still in thereπ
one sec
Thanks, nothing visible in the output log when selecting the road :/
did you try the command "show tools"?
if it makes a diff i am running 5.4.4
That's unfortunate π¦
Have you tried restarting UE? Sometimes that can bring the connection back
The most common reason this is happening is cause users have (accidentally or not) deleted the curve that the road is based on, which will break the connection to the tool. And of course sometimes bugs surfaces that we have missed and then sadly the only thing to do is re-build that road with a fresh road-tool π¦
lemme try
the road was horrible anyway π
Is there a way to add any falloff so its not perfect line
nah its gone, i created another though and it seems ok
Happy to hear you did not loose too much work at least!
There are some new features in the road tool in Dash 1.8, will check if something like that is in there! π Otherwise, what I would do is scatter some small grass/rocks, on the edges of the road π
also my landscape has a remove foliage layer for pcg - in normal pcg i can use that to prevent pcg spawning on the path, and finally rvt!
You mean a landscape layer that is on certain parts of your landscape that you would not like foliage to be scattered upon?
And you would like the road tool to have a similar feature within the road tool, or what exactly is the idea/request? π€
Sorry for not following completely!
well for example on splines i dont (may not) want to spawn foliage from my auto generation layers (grass types)
so what you do in unreal is you can specify a landscape deformation layer - which in my case clears layer grass types
also just things like tint etc (just my wishlist)
texture rotation, albedo, roughness, specular adjustment.... (the list is long!)
RVT is kinda important though - when is 1.8 coming out?
and just to add another little thin if i scatter along the road spline it follows that but i use smooth - but i think scatter on the mesh has a higher performance hit?
actually dont have option to scatter on edges of meshes
Gonna relay your suggestion to the team, a bit outside my expertise to even understand it, but thanks! π
No Dash 1.8 ETA yet, but we are working on getting it ready asap.
Ye if you scatter on the road and changes the road, it has higher performance hit, but if you are happy with the road 100% you can always convert it to a static mesh, by searching in Dash "convert to static", then there is no performance hit at all, as it is no longer procedural.
Mesh scatter is an old and bad tool hehe, in this and all cases it is better to use Surface Scatter for this.
In surface scatter, can't remember exactly what is available in your Dash version, but if you have Border Masking that will do the trick for you, otherwise I would scatter on the road, then add the road spline as proximity mask and change the distance until you only have things scattered on the edged of the road π
yup i found that - kinda hate having to turn off procedural thoguh!
but all good i wait for 1.8 and see what appears
Understandable! You could also try freezing the road tool, that should give you better performance, and still being able to change it later if you need. Should be a button in the road tool menu π
it would make sense to take a snapshot so if we need to edit again we could restore from snapshot?
I think you would get more or less the same logic from our preset system, save your road settings as a preset, then bake and if you need to re-edit, you can create new road with same settings! π
Let me know what you think!
Hi, am I missing the save preset in my Road Tool like from the tutorial?
oh, that's weird, what Dash version are you on exactly?
You actually have to create a preset first from the menu, then this icon will appear, to give you easy access to your existing presets π
I'm blind as a bat..... Thank you!
haha I had to ask the devs as well, so we are both blind it seemsπ
