After "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005)" set shaders enabled to false and still crashing
Hi, I had the AMD GPU issue where the game would crash if I joined a world with shaders enabled (my GPU is the RX 6600). I tried disabling shaders, and it would let me join but eventually I would still crash. I tried using the OpenGL 2.0 mod, but regardless of whether I had shaders on or off I would still crash.

the above are the logs for after iris has been set to false
below are the logs from when iris is active
Iris does not support Not Enough Crashes. You will need to remove it in order to work.
I'll remove it! But I do want to say that I only added that after it was crashing to hopefully crash to the main screen instead of desktop.
Basically, NEC is not the cause of the crash
Yeah, NEC doesn't protect your game from a renderer crash.
That's why you get this specific error message, which is a driver crash instead of the usual game crash.
Ah okay, so is there a known solution to the actual cause of the crash?
Do you have the latest drivers?
(also the second solution is just using Linux :clueless:)
if you mean the latest AMD drivers, I should. I was searching for a solution to this yesterday before making this post and did all the driver updates. It still crashes though :(
just running on Linux will fix this????
i mean, yeah
it's a whole different driver
Mesa drivers (the ones on Linux) are drastically more reliable in most games (though some shaders will have issues; not many)
dang it i dont want to set that up right nowww
i already have a linux installation but it's not on an ssd
does this happen without any other mods?
I have a bit over a hundred mods at the moment so I'm not sure if any others are causing this specific error to occur
is this the kind of problem that AMD itself needs to rectify on their end with driver updates? or can/will Iris be updated to be able to function properly?
cause if this is unfixable or won't be fixed on Iris's end (and we obviously can't bank on AMD fixing this in a timely manner) then I might just bite the bullet and take some time to set up linux... it's just whenever i play around with linux i end up distro hopping for 3 days HAHAHAHA
Linux would probably do you better for just Minecraft
okay so if the error is purely from Iris (which I understand you cannot tell me), playing on Linux will definitely fix this issue letting me play with Iris and shaders enabled?
well, can you send the PID log in DM's
I can try to guess a culprit
where can i find the PID log?
.minecraft
root
a new one is generated for each one of those crashes
his_err_pid23902.log
(it can be any number)ah okay
hey, sorry for the ping but I was wondering if you had an answer for this question
.
I have no clue
probably AMD
Alright! Finally got the chance to start setting up everything and after an hour trying to fix something that was broken, I’ve finally got everything running!
And, at least so far, it seems to work perfectly! Not sure if it’s performing overall better than Windows (yet) but regardless, happy everything’s functioning, shaders and all :)
thanks again not just for this but also just iris in general :D
