Are swimming briefs a big no-no or can they work?
I find big baggy swim trunks to be super ugly and uncomfortable. I hate how the netting chafes, how they inflate when sitting next to jets, and how they get all heavy when they soak up water. Needless to say I have some sensory issues.
So I was wondering if swimming briefs are an option still. I was thinking of something more in the vein of boxer briefs instead of just briefs, like this:

a substitute for what?
for actual swimming the briefs are fine though you might get a few eyebrow raises entering/exiting the water depending on where you live
for wearing as shorts around town before/after going swimming i personally would not (no pockets, super tight, they look like boxer briefs) but your mleage may vary
That's a good point about the pockets. I live in the US so I definitely might get some looks, but more and more I've been seeing guys wearing swimming briefs so maybe it's becoming more acceptable. I was thinking with a pattern and a drawstring like in the picture, they're much less likely to be mistaken for underwear.
it's the length and lack of pockets that give the effect of underwear imo
Hmm, I wonder if they make them with pockets.
You just have to commit to it, like Andrew Scott in Ripley
Yeah, what zeo said: For swimming and being on the beach those are fine. Outside of that I would change into normal shorts.
Also ppl raising eyebrows over swimming shorts at the beach/pool are silly prudes and should be disregarded.
depends where
At a swimming pool, these are much better than swimming shorts lol
Here in France you're not allowed to wear swimming shorts at the pool for sanitary reasons and it's not weird at all to wear these
it's so people won't hide underwear underneath
which would be unhyegenic
I'm guessing if they had to say this, people were doing it at some point 😂
