why is Dz^2 orbital filled first in sp3d hybridization

Not just this, my teacher told me there is a specific order for just d orbitals where dz2, then dx2-y2, then dxy orbital gets hybridized. I am confused as to why is this (I can understand for first 2 cuz they are diff but why dxy before dzy or dxz)

It has to do with symmetry, which is beyond our scope but here is the detailed answer https://chemistry.stackexchange.com/questions/66698/theoretically-which-d-orbital-participates-in-sp3d-and-sp3d2

but why dxy before dzy or dxz
Not sure about this, as they are all at t2g, if you are talking about sp3d3, that is incorrectly taught in coaching. Also, even NCERT is incorrect when teaching SF6, PCl5. It is only s and p orbitals that take part, including in IF7 https://chemistry.stackexchange.com/questions/31584/why-an-asymmetric-geometry-with-sp3d-and-sp3d3-hybridization Here is IF7 detail: https://chemistry.stackexchange.com/questions/28692/pbp-vs-tbp-geometry/29120#29120

So if your question is: 1) what to do for JEE Main/NEET: Mug vomit what is in NCERT 2) what to do for jee advanced: They wont ask things that are proven to be incorrect, so no chance any of this is coming in JEE adv.

Wait what do you mean that IF7 only uses s and p subshells It has 7 bonds How does the atom not excite electrons to d subshell I searched a bit online it says that only heavier elements use d block for bonding (not sure if they make Covalent bond in the first place)

just check that post out na goes into detail right exactly, hydbridisation is an archaic idea, not really used but since ncert me hai, we mug :D

How would you say should I learn all this stuff the right way I mean agar JEE syllabus ke pov se dekhe toh I can see that aadha material outdated hai So that I actually get deep knowledge and wont have to mug

see jee main = mug ncert jee advanced for ioc = they ask obscure stuff, but this time around almost all qs (barring one) were doable with ncert knowledge, if you read the lab manual inside out too. deep knowledge thing is for fun which one can do if they have extra time/interest.

Yeah but NCERT has some wrong stuff Why do they even ask stuff from it Btw is this knowledge necessary for other chapters in our JEE adv syllabus Its that chats on reddit say that the real truth of chemistry only gets discussed in PhD level courses

only jee main and neet do jee adv me galat cheezein nahi poochte and if they do you challenge and they fix nta is joke from this pov lol ignore all that gas phd people also kinda know what they are working on not all of 'chem' :) nature is mental man practically impossible to know everything :P what we spoke of here? not sure haha. but it is more of lore to just know. it is all bonding ++ shall we close this one out?
