Allocating more RAM not working
Hi! I'm having an issue with allocating more RAM to Minecraft. I change the command line in the Minecraft Launcher (I don't delete anything, I just add "-Xmx8G") but everytime I start the game, I get the same error message in the chat telling me I haven't allocated enough RAM. I then restart and try again. Each time I start the game, the command line resets. So does the resolution.
Note: I'm launching the Minecraft Launcher using CurseForge. I start the installation with Distant Horizons on it via the launcher as usual.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have to change the ram setting in curseforge
This also happens to me, but I use fabric
I'll try that now.
Also, how do I get the shaders to work without even having OptiFine available for Fabric? OptiFabric isn't compatible. Shaders aren't showing up in video settings either. Am I missing something?
Use sodium and iris
Optifine is not worth your while anymore
Should I just play on Forge instead?
Donโt recommend unless you want a bunch of forge exclusive mods
Alrighty
Which version does Distant Horizons work on on Forge?
/shadersupport or only 1.20.1 and above for shaders

I'll just download the Modrinth app at this point ๐ญ
Get it modrinth app is so goated
Lol yeah, just got it and made an instance with all the content I want. Soooo much smoother and cleaner than CurseForge, jesuuus
Simple and fast as well wow
And adding everything is so much quicker
Exaxtly
๐
Insane.
Glad I made this post lol
Got more than just an answer to my first question
Tbh the version swap being so easy in modrinth is crazy useful for incompatibilities
You can swap versions?? I dont gotta make a new instance?
You can switch version of instances but i meant changing the versions of mods in instances being easier
Oohhh
Thats awesome
Yeah well I'll be trying this now instead of CurseForge, literally no hassle using Modrinth loll
Only thing missing is updating mods across major versions
Just a heads up some modpacks arent available in modrinth
Unless thatโs already a thing
(Majority)
Prism user here, last i tried it doesnโt work
Ah thats fine
Any tips on cool world generation mods?
Tectonic
If it works on forge
Didnt check
I'll be using Fabric lol
Gave up on Forge
And regions unexplored for biomes
Fabric is way quicker
Also
Tectonic makes the terrain better for dh
Basically makes more realistic terrain
Big mountains too
Wow okay I will try that rn
Can even double the build and generation height
Also, any idea why my mouse cursor is literally invisible when I'm in fullscreen?
Oops
LOL
You can also use tectonic
But it slows it down
Are you using medal by chance?
Alot
Nope
Dont even have it installed
Any screen recording at all?
My mouse appears in windowed
Yeah
Oops
Thats probs why
Yea
Tbh they censor the simplest worlds here lmao
Tyty
I said the simple S word ๐ญ
It even gets the kendrick lamars album bame
If you know it
Probably... Not sure though
You mean his latest?
I love seeing 600 block tall mountains and then boating straight into the side of the thing with the underground river feature from tectonic
I'll have to try it out rn
Doubt my pc can handle like anything
but
worth a try
Youโll have to enable the increased height datapack and edit the config to increase the terrain height
Wait it works with the height increase?
In tectonic
Yes
Can you also edit it with the mod
Normal rivers cutting straight into it
Alr wow
Wdym
๐ญ
You said datapack
But you can edit the config with mod
Right
The built in datapack thatโs part of the mod solely for the increased build limit option
Oh
Then you edit the config of the mod to increase terrain height as well as horizontal scaling, deeper oceans, and enabling/disabling the other features
ooookay issues again... Iris isnt showing up in the shaders section
Its a mod
Iris isnโt a shader
Yes but
Oh
You add those separately
Yeah
Oh my god
Iris basically adds the function to adding shaders
Im slow alright
I get it
Itโs what loads them
Uhhhh
Which shaders are compatible
Better worded thanks
Every

Oh you meant dh
Yeah this a good link
I recommend photon or bliss
Oooh bliss
Photon works default from modrinth but for bliss you need a special version from the link above
Also if you cant see photon because your version is maybe too high in modrinth theres option to override versions
If only complementary had better distant atmosphere and shadows
I'm on version 1.20.1, most people were using that apparently so I went with it
Nice
Im running on 1.21 nightly build
But wouldnt recommend
Now for Tectonic, do I have to edit that stuff in the files or is it possible to do it in game?
Only using it because other version crashes my game with some driver error
Never tried it
Cant recommend
Default settings are good tho
Aalright I will just create a new world now
Tho i would love to try 600 tall mountains
600 blocks tall ๐ญ
Btw whats your cpu
Unnecessarily tall
Id climb it
God I forgot, lemme check
Dh takes long time to generate larger sizes
ryzen 5 5600X 6-core
So dont expect to join and it to instantlyvload everything
Thats good
I'm currently without a job but once I do get one I will be upgrading RAM, GPU and CPU
Minecraft with a bunch of insane mods is a dream of mine
Truly
Im generating
512 chunks radius
On nightly build with i3 12100f overnight
And it should be done by the morning
128 chunks take me like 35 mins
Oh wait I gotta load in all the chunks first right
Fly around and stuff
Im confuuused
Leave distant generation on and stand still
Yeah it takes some time and it depends on you how far you want it to be
Default is 128 pretty sure
You can change the load put on your cpu in settings
Recommend paid for the whole cpu basically uses everything
You can also check the wireframe settings to see all the tasks
Which mode should I have it on?
Mode? As in cpu load?
Well I mean either way I dont think this CPU is tough enough
It is
Every cpu is
Nono, it says like distant generation mode. Features, pre existing chunks, etc
They are meant to operate at high temperatures at high loads
Oh
Features
Pre existing chunks is pretty self explanatory
And surface
Dont do it
It doesnt generate villages or trees as far as. I know
Getting framedrops rn but could be because I have like 50 tabs open and many apps in the background ๐
You will get framedrops with paid for the whole cpu if you wanna play on the world in mean time try aggressive or balanced
Also if you afk use paid for the whole cpu and dw bout the strain cpus are made to work hard
wdym "paid"
Its a preset
The paid for the whole cpu
Where ๐
Just uses everything in your cpu
Dh settings
Theres a simple menu when you open it
yeah but where in the menu
I must be blind
Hold on. A sec
see this icon
near pov
press and
Yesyes I see that one, I have opened it
these settings
are the most important ones
you have cpu load
ohh
wait one sec
lod chunk render distance
Thing is
Its maxing my GPU
not ur cpu?
making me lag more
nope
yeah its supposed to
well both
its supposed to be used while notplaying the game
tbh
oh
for maximum chunk generation
use balanced if you wanna play during it
and what should i put the chunk amount as
Its on 128 rn
hard to tell but are you gonna afk ?
the generation
or just play normally during it
I mean, stuff generate as I flew around before, I dont really know how 128 chunks is supposed to look
you dont need to fly
also its not ecommended
recommended
it will cause gaps in chunks and such
Im standing still rn
thats better
dh
works by
generating normal vanilla chunks and adding LODS to them
how long do i need to afk
it took me around 40 mins to generate 128 chunks on the stable release with my i3 12100f with 4 cores and 8 threads
so im guessing
it will take you like half a hour
also
doubling the chunks
quarduples the time
you need
so if you switch to 256
Good god
it will take four times more
you are generating millions of blocks after all
... I swithced to 256 out of curiosity...
i mean you can go for it
you almost should
Its almost 4 am ๐ญ
if you want to have a good experience
Ill just let it on
you can always set it to like 512 and let it afk
then see how much you generated
when you wake up
if you press f3 look at the sky
and you will see this
this is more accurate
Oh man, I was planning on trying these mods witha friend of mine, guess shes gonna have to sit and wait for everything to load in while I play ๐ญ
this determines pretty well
Does essentials work with these mods?
how much you generated
no clue
i do run bunch of optimization mods
This literally doesnt tell me much sadly...
Such as?
i mean
everything
lithium
ferrite core
modern fast
nosisium
do they help?
btw
a little
with generation
also you got sodium right
can you send me a screenshot of your f3
in game
One sec
this is after around 4 hours
3:50 on my timer
Christ
4 hours??
im planning to generate like
512
chunks
and then use it with 256 chunks
but its way more larger
than it looks in the screenshot
cause i didnt show the whole world
I dont think Im meant to be playing with such high chunk amounts, even 128 is too much ๐ญ I mostly just wanted to try it out, seemed fitting for like RPG mods and such
Might just have to stick to shaders and fun mods
Wow
hjolon lemme fix the gaps
I saw some guy generate a ton of chunks like a toooon, figured he had a maxed computer
i mean it would be
if you waited a lil
some have
apparently
amd thread ripper generates 128 chunks in 5 minutes
WHAT
without the holes
how much does the thread ripper go for...
thats so pretty
looks like the maps almost but much more detailed
this is only on medium
i feel like medium is quite poor so i play with
high
often
ah okay understandable though
theres just lots of stuff to learn when you start with DH
also the thread ripper is a whopping 13000$
..
yeah
its a thread ripper
got bunch of threads
that is absolute insane
i need to see the size of it
oh wait
lol
oh also this is with tectonic
so these biomes
are actually insanely more biggier
than you think
youll have to show me like
a picture that shows everything
with depth
thats tough to do but
hold on
nvm i cant do it
atleast not now
sorry
๐ญ
i want to let it focus on generation
but overall with shaders
its pretty beautiful
no worries ๐ you take your time with thtat
lemme show you screenshots of a 128 chunks i generated
as you can see you dont neccessarily need 512 chunks
how fast do you think the "worst" thread ripper would work? the uhhh 7965WX one
no one knows
tbh
thats gorgeous
fair
and its only 128 chunks
its like 3k
if i played survival
i would bump it upto like
256
chunks
so its all generated in lods and chunks
then go down to 128
do you have a resource pack for those clouds
oh
its a shader pack
its bliss shader
i would go down to 128
oh right it is bliss lol
just so it doesnt load in more chunks
when i explore
makes sense
thats smart
i think
you can possibly
play on balanced
and over time
ive never really been able to play on anything more than like 16 chunks on vanilla
as you play
it will load in some chunks
vanilla minecraft is horrendous
with your cpu you should
i will have to try once i get into this more
does it work with soidum better
yeah well im starting to think my rotten GPU is the issue
i mean its pretty simple
whats your gpu
cause your cpu is fine
1660 super
its budget but its very good
its not terribl
its definitely terrible ๐ญ
old and forgotten
its not a bad gpu i used to own 1650
before i switched to rx 6700xt
should be able to run shaders fine
I only get like 100 fps on vanilla
have you tried
Its crazy
installing sodium
lithium
fabric
i mean fabric is basic
so yeah
I will have to try with those alone, without distant horizons
and check
yeah
those have
insane
like insane
but like just regular vanilla cooks my pc
increases in performance
sodium is revolutionary
triples fps
ahhh im so happy i found out about this, ive been in pain when playing this darn game
its killing optifine slowly
fortnite runs smoother ๐ญ
lmaooo
but seriously try soidum
cause its a life saver
i will share the 512 tommorow
if my game doesnt crash
but its been four hours and it didnt crash with the nightly build
so it should work
nightly build makes generation like 35% faster but its unstable and uncompatible with mods in many cases
pls do
i will share iton extreme settings will probably be running at 30 fps ๐ญ
this is nothing compared to yours, havent let it load for long but this is already looking sooo pretty
dh 2.2 releases in 3 days
worth it for the screenshot
thats actually good
wait can you send me a
f3 screenshot
look at the sky tho
okay one sec
like the whole screen one
alr
hey not bad
pretty sure you didnt even run it for tha long
do you remember
how long ago you started it
like 15-20?
thats fine
you using whole load ?
in cpu
or balanced
whole
for almost 15 mins
thats alr then
yippie
this is mine
check the update propagator
its a great way to determine
how much you generated
are those numbers like
the blocks?
nah chunks
i think
if it was blocks
it would be in millions
youve generated
like hundreds of millions
almost a million chunks?
no
im
what
thats not
๐ญ
i dont think thats chunks
the update propagator
is the chunks i thinkl
oh
so what does 128 chunks really stand for then
ohh
cus its not actually 128 chunks or what?
you dont egt it
its 128
no ๐ญ
chunks
in every direction
that makes so much more sense
so like
i hope im rigt but wait
pretty sure thats how it goes
so its basically
128x128
okay that makes sense
you can translate it into blocks
by doing
cus 128 doesnt seem that much when it just says 128 ๐ญ
multiplying it by 16
cause one chunk
is 16 blocks long
so 2048 blocks
2048x2048
map
i gotta try using voxy
one time
other lod mod dont recommend it tho
math was never really my strong suit...
lmao
welp thats all the help i have for today
youve been very helpful! i appreciate it a lot
np
ill have to let this run during the night and see where i end up
either a fried CPU or a beautiful world
remember the
/tp @a comman
so you can goup
quickly
nah it wont fry it
cpus are supposed to run at 100C
celcius
doesnt ring a bell to be honest lol
seriously?
little bit of overexxageratoin
its like they can run at that temp
safely
but will crash
or
๐ญ ๐ญ
slow down
ooh okay yeah
you can run lke 80celcius
safely
i run around 75celcius
while using distant horizons
ive heard about ppl overclocking their stuff and whatnot, tried once but got scared so i reverted it, didnt make much of a difference anyway
but tbh 90 is fine too it just depends on the cpu
nah as long as you dont overlock
you dont need to worry
cpus are manufactured to go through insane stuff
okay then thats good news
on base settings
same with gpus
and every other component
otherwise you would have hundreds of lawsuits from broken components flowing to companies
i think my pc would benefit from at least a RAM increase and a GPU upgrade tbh
how much ramd o you have
i saw you using 10
Perhaps I need to change my motherboard cus its old and idk if newer GPUs are compatible
yeah I have 16 in total lol
use 8
10 a lil too much
Probably should yeah
True true
a good rule is half
but dh also has some calculation
you can do depending on your threads
16 ram is alright
Ill be getting 32gb sooner or later, im very messy and keep a lot of apps and stuff going on in the background, my pc doesnt get very happy
ig thats good
but it isnt enough! ๐
it wont benefit your current fps
or speed generation
just gotta say
well i wouldnt know tbh so im glad youre telling me, i just feel like it would idk
your cpu would be used more if you got a better gpu
true ram is good for lots of tasks
so maybe i should invest in a better gpu instead
but if you run games
like minecraft
or any other game
16 is all you need pretty much
and with that gpu
itsbetter to upgrade it
and then upgrade the ram
Okay then thats what I will do
oh also one last thing
Is this supposed to happen? lemme send a short clip
send
whenever I press and hold down ESC or E, it just spams it
maybe thats supposed to be a thing but it feels weird
dont take my advice extremely seriously i would instead recommend going on a 10 hour reddit rampage searching how pcs work
yeah that happens to me too
doesnt matter
๐ญ ๐ญ Its okay, it doesnt really matter since its not gonna impact me negatively either way if I upgrade my GPU
it could impact your wallet negatively
if it doesnt help with this, thats fine, its gonna help with other stuff
true....
job first, then gpu
ig
but thats life and games are a lifestyle
if you feel like it i genuinely would recommend researching stuff about pcs if you got time cause it will save some of your money and money is time
yup thats what i always do
alr gl
its 4 am for me too
so i gotta sleep ig
alrighty
night night!!
gn
oh my god
i would love to see a screenshot from first person view
but like
high up
