coin problem
I believe it should be c but key says a
Coin is in free fall so there's no pseudo force or anything ,only g in both the cases.
In case 2 the elevator is moving so essentially the distance travelled by coin in ground frame is reduced

to close the thread when your doubt is solved. Mention the users who helped you solve the doubt. This will be added to their stats.how is it only g in both cases ? In case 2 it can be considered that the left is moving with uniform acc a
let's say it take t1 to reach the floor when it is at rest
and t2 when it is moving with uniform acc
in this way the answer is gonna be c
due to pseudo force either lowering or increasing the effective acc downwards
but considering moving uniformly means uniform velocity there will be only g in both cases and no pseudo
and if there is no pseudo the eff acc remains g and the time taken in both cases comes out to be equal
option b that is
a can't be the answer in any case
Why can’t we consider it as uniform velocity?
i mean that's what i did in another case
^
yeah i got your point
in short if life is moving up there is initial accn of coin in upwards dirn and as soon as its dropped it get g downward therefore g-a
and vice versa for down
same goes for intitial velocity ig
yeah , i misread , got t1=t2
thanx
shall i close @stormycloud or due you have any doubts ?
yep but that is when lift is moving with acc a and direction isn't specified
no it doesn't
uniform vel means no net acc
g remains the only force this way taking same time to reach bottom of lift in both cases
i meant in other context
elaborate please
nvm that lol
