Git licensing question

Hi people. Changing the license of my repository also applies the new license's terms to old commits? If not, is there any way I can "add the new license to old commits"?

not really technically you can rewrite the commits, but i don't know the legal implications of that

According to this license changes are not retroactive, but there's no real legal precedent Also, keep in mind that you can't just willy-nilly change the license if your code has other contributors

i mean, if the repo has no other contributors and no active users of the code you can probably get away with it it would mainly be a problem if people are currently using it under that license
