Quarter zip vs V neck?

With just an OCBD underneath and no tie. Quarter zip seems to be slightly trendy these days, but I'm honestly not sure and to me they both kinda occupy the same role (that business/smart casual look). What are people's thoughts on this and the pros/cons/difference between the two sweaters?

both look wack button down under a crewneck sweater is stronger IMO.

Thanks, may I ask why button down with crewneck is better?

quarter zip & v-neck are just off-trend rn. Obv regionality plays a part but they're largely seen as p dated.

I see. part of the reason I don't like the crewneck is that it looks "stuffy" with a button down underneath, but idk maybe that's just me

I kinda see where you're coming from. I don't think a vneck helps much with that, and non-ugly qzip fits are 1 in a million cardigans or fleeces could destuffify a shirt

the other part is, how invested are you in fashion/what are your goals? the pics you provided are generally fine and inoffensive officewear, but they kinda evoke "business guy wearing business clothes because hes supposed to" type vibes, if that makes sense.

I wouldn't say I'm super invested into fashion or anything; the reason I asked is cause I'm gonna film a short self introduction video for a panel of judges and I'm debating which to wear (or perhaps crewneck). I come from a tech background, so qzips are sorta common. The main thing is I want to give off a smart casual vibe adherent to my tech background, but at the same time I don't want to come off too serious (e.g. no suit), too casual (i.e. not taking the video seriously enough), or giving off a middle-aged dad vibe (some people on reddit said this about qzips). And yeah that makes sense, I just took some pics from google images. They do give off that vibe lol

Quarter zip is much more casual than v neck.

Right that's the thing. I understand that and that's why I'm debating because I'm not sure if it would be considered too casual Idk, perhaps I'm overthinking it lol. I don't wear either (or crewnecks) sweater much in general so I have no experience

Ya I think it might just be a mental thing tbh - crewneck with ocbd under is pretty casual but i can see how it might feel stuffy if it's out of your comfort zone. But for this specific occasion I'd probably default to asking someone who went thru a similar panel or knows the judges if possible. If that's not possible, wear what you feel most confident in. Tech is the largest unfashionable industry lmao so if you feel better in a v-neck than a crew, do that.

Thanks, makes sense. Yeah normally I wouldn't think too much about this, but the judges will most likely come from a business background and I don't want to come off too casual.
