System crash when streaming with Sunshine or Steam Link.
Hi. This started happening yesterday. After 35 hours of playing Red Dead Redemption 2 exclusively streaming it to the TV with Sunshine, I was 2 hours into another problem-free gaming session when suddenly the image froze, the sound started looping and I could hear the PC fans sounding like a washing machine in the PC room. I SSHd into the PC and ran a shutdown command, which closed the SSH session but didn’t turn off the PC, it was still going crazy loud until I finally held the power button to shut it down.
No hardware or software changes that I can think of, other than ujust update. I set this PC up headless with a dummy HDMI plug and has worked fine until yesterday.
Now, soon after I start streaming even just the desktop, the exact same happens, fans going crazy and everything.
What I tried:
- Stream a less demanding game (Balatro), same issue.
- Stream to different clients, same issue.
- Stream with Steam Remote Play instead, same issue.
- Run rpm-ostree rollback a couple of times, no luck
- Connect an actual monitor to the PC and game normally on it, seems to work fine
- Nuke everything and perform a clean Bazzite install, set Sunshine again from scratch. I then streamed the desktop to the TV and was setting up Steam when the same thing happened.
I'm slightly worried this could be a hardware issue, but what puzzles me is that everything seems to work fine if I game on this PC with a monitor, keyboard and mouse connected.

What device are you on? What image are you using?
Sorry I forgot such a basic thing. Hope this formats OK, I'm on the phone right now.

it may be an NVIDIA problem. Try the x11 session to see if anything changes
Thanks for your answer, but I’m leaning towards a hardware issue. These last days I’ve been on a distro hopping journey that ended up in Windows, and the same issue happened everywhere, even Windows 11. In Windows with Sunshine it happened immediately, then I tried with Nvidia gamestream, and it seemed to work fine with the desktop but as soon as I opened a game, It froze and fans started going crazy. Tomorrow I’ll bring the PC to the living room and connect it directly to the TV, which will probably be a pain in the ass because of my cats, wires, RGB and stuff, but gaming with a monitor connected, no streaming, seems to be working fine. I want to confirm that with an extended session tomorrow. But the bottom line is that this isn’t obviously Bazzite’s fault. Bazzite has been amazing and I’m going back to it as soon as I figure this out, even if that means new PC.
