We often bring up "cool" (condition, not temperature) but what even is cool? Is it any different from 'swag'? Is coolness something you're born with or can it be acquired?

I think there are certain like physical signifiers of cool like a leather jacket or whatever but its easy to point at people who look lame in traditionally cool things like all those alt right weirdos.
Coolness as far as i can tell is all about projected comfortability that can kinda be boosted by being really in to like indie bookstores and cool boots or whatever

imo it comes down to whether or not it seems like you're wearing a costume or if it's part of your ✨ vibe ✨
if it feels cohesive in your attitude, your context (office, outdoors, job), and the rest of your clothes and it's something that someone else wishes they could pull off, that's cool
Coolness is a signifier of belonging to a certain ingroup and highly relative to a certain group and context.
In my DnD group me being a walking rulebook was regarded as kinda cool, outside of that it was extremely dorky.
Coolness can be acquired. In my opinion, the definition of cool is subjective and varies from person to person. For example, someone might see a person wearing avant-garde clothing and think it's cool, while others might think it's Strange.

i think cool comes from doing stuff you enjoy, regardless of what you're wearing
if you're mashing in business casual (and okay with getting your clothes ruined) then that's probably cool to the other people there
it's less a thing that you can attribute to a single item or a person wearing a single item, because the context is totally different (even with stuff like a leather jacket)
