getsockopt error [Spigot, 1.21]
When I join my server through my IP it works completely fine, when my friend tries to join it through the IP he gets the error "getsockopt" and I told him to put the port in and he still got the same error. We made sure he was on the right version and had everything correct but it didn't work still.

I have to use some sort of spigot fork because we have a plugin for lives and it is the main plugin. We also have Voice chat so we can't go off of it
And I am running the server off of my PC so he is using my IPV4 IP
are you port forwarded
what does that mean
im using the :25565 after my ip
The spigot fork is paper no?
Because spigot is mid
oh ok
i downloaded spigot
I mean paper is better in many aspects
is there an efficient way in switching from spigot to paper
just switch the .jar file
alr
but basically to make the server acessible outside your own wifi network you need to port forward 25565
oh okay
well i added it to the server ip i got him to join
also should i add a proxy?
basically makes it so that your wifi router will actually accept connections
wdym
i look at papermc website and see proxy below paper
you dont need to
its useful to be make networks with multiple servers
oh ok
well its a private SMP
the server cant even connect to him anymore
i turned it to papermc and deleted the voicechat ip so it would auto go to my server but it doesnt let him join at all now
@Admincraft Meta explain port forwarding
nvm its not ai-
LOL
It's when you open a port in ur router so your Minecraft servers can be joinable outside your network
oh ok
so if i join my server then take the port they join me with (from command prompt) and set it as the port, if my friend connects with that port will it work
https://onlinemo.de/query to check a server status
Server Status
Query Java or Bedrock Servers
huh
You can check a server status to see if it's reachable on the internet, outside your network
ohk
ty
Might want to check server properties assigned port

the cheeto colour is hiding my ip adress btw
i did ipconfig and the ip was IPV4
i did but it still doesnt work for some reasn
@Cooleg do u know plz
you have to config it on your router
also
also as in you have to set it both in server.properties and in router config
alternatively you could use something like https://playit.gg
uhm.. how would i set anything up on my router? is there router settings??
okay maybe not that route then
try using this
okay
uhm
this is confusing
i wanna use my pc
bc then people will get good ping
ok so its abt ping
then uh
well its a pvp smp
its also a 350 border
so its not gonna take up much space
id suggest you try figuring out adding a port forward to your router
idk if i should be making a server, that sentance is way too complicated for me π
but ok i will try
im getting chatgpt to guide me-
do i have to do stuff to my actual router irl?
when you say do stuff
if you mean modify settings yes
bru
i am just tryna set up an SMP that will only be up for 2 hours a week π
why is it so difficult
you could just use playit and gague the ping
it might not be that bad
okay
omg i can change it to london :D
but yeah i figured its at least worth checking it to see how it works out for you
bruh why did it give me the ip adress "barbie-lover" π
ima reroll until i get a decent ip
there are only 2 i can get-
and now it doesnt tell me how to connect my files to playit
can i use playit and Simple Voice chat mod together?
ngl idk
bru
it doesnt work
and neither does me trying to get into router settings
ima just give up
if anyone has idea ig u can tell
So that your shiz isn't hacked to oblivion the moment it turns on. https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_forwarding
Port forwarding
Port forwarding, also referred to as port mapping, is a method of forwarding a network port from one network node to another. This technique can allow an external user to reach a port on a private IP address (inside a LAN) from the outside using a NAT-enabled router.
Port forwarding allows remote computers (e.g. public machines on the Internet) ...
