How do I use CloudFlare nameservers?
I'm in a bit of a bind.
I recently registered a new domain with CloudFlare. At the time, I didn't know that CloudFlare forced its free users to use their nameservers. I can't transfer my domain to a different registrar because of the 60-day restriction.
There are a number of things that I'd like to do, but I'm not sure what is and isn't possible. Chief among these is to self-host a DNS server. I'm also using DigitalOcean to host some services, and I'd like to point my domain to their nameservers if I don't end up creating my own DNS server.
Complicating all this, while CloudFlare doesn't allow me to change nameservers, I am able to add
NS
records to my domain. I'm not really sure what this does, and how it is different from the nameservers CloudFlare has my domain locked into.
Thanks for any help.11 Replies
cloudflare allows domain transfer to a different registrar
https://www.cloudflare.com/learning/dns/dns-records/dns-ns-record/
you can look up what a ns record does
Not in my case.
well this is the case with every registrar
as this 60 day cooldown is dictated by ICANN
FAQ #3: "Your registrar may deny a transfer request if the domain name is within 60 days of initial registration." (Emphasis added)
They don't have to do this. CloudFlare is just being difficult.
But that's mostly beside the question because I doubt I can convince them to unlock my domain. What I really need to know is what's in this picture.
I am from the municipality of Casablanca, in Chile, I made the DNS changes of Cloudflare in NIC Chile but many of the subdomains are not working, it redirects the pages at least 10 times, I am totally new to Cloudflare
with the Zone ID and Account ID, can something be done with them?
within the virtual machines I pointed to the nameserver 1.1.1.1
but it does not give me SSL and many of the pages are not starting and I get an error of "redirection many times"
I hope you can help me and thank you very much
would love to see an example of a registrar that permits transfer within 60 days of a initial transfer
Right, most registrars are holding to the 60 days. If they give you a 'discount' on 1st year registration; I think that's just them "getting their money back" so to speak (or that's how I see it as)
If anyone could answer this question, I'd really appreciate it.
The question has been answered
In fact one of the screenshots you provided shows it's a result of it being created in the last 60 days.
