V-Minion - Consistent perimeter print errors (Single wider layer + void)
Hey everyone!
My V-Minion has been great, I'm super happy with it, but it's still in a fine-tuning phase to get to its full potential. Most of the things I've printed come out great, but for some reason, this part (and variations on it) have two consistent print issues on every print, and I can't seem to be able to get fully rid of them.
I have attached a photo showing both, and I'll provide some more photos from different prints below.
The first problem (red box) is that I get a void in that exact spot every time, no matter how many perimeters I use. The second issue (Black box) is that I get a single wider layer on the exact same spot every time.
I have tried many things in order to get rid of these issues, but nothing seems to be helping.
Things I've tried:
- Changing speeds:
If slowed down to extremely slow speeds, it helps but doesn't fully fix the issue
- Changing temperatures:
No effect.
- Changing cooling:
No effect.
- Adding perimeters:
No effect.
Disabling pressure advance:
Setting
pressure_advance: 0.0
does not help, but I', not sure if that fully disables pressure advance.
Relevant information:
Material: PETG @ 225 °C
Hotend: Rapido 2 UHF
Nozzle: Chinese CHT nozzle, 0.6mm
Extruder: LGX Lite
Supports: Custom designed in CAD, with settings override for less perimeters and infill. Red box defect happens exactly at the height supports end at.
Please let me know if any other info would be helpful.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide, it's super appreciated!20 Replies
Have you tried viewing the gcode preview maybe something is causing it to leave a part out
Thanks for the reply Samus, yeah, I've tried that. I can't find anything wrong with it... Here's a preview from Prusa slicer.
Zoom in on the bottom there is a few odd slow downs
I don't think they coincide with the void though.
and if they did, wouldn't slow downs give more time for the material to settle in?
It would but why does it think it needs to slow down all of a sudden is there a hole in the layer below also if there is moisture in the filament it will then boil and cause gaps as well but since you say it happens every time I think it's something in the layer before I would also look at it by line type
Unless neither of those 2 is the correct spot
The line above what I circle could be it as well
that does line up
I wonder what could be cauing that
Change to line view and zoom in maybe it thought it couldn't print the layer below or thinks it's a thin wall
This is the height at which the slowdown happens. Seems normal
Ya I'm not sure as to why it thinks it needs to slow down then sorry 😞
No problem man! Thanks for the help anyway!
I'm doing further test prints to further diagnose the issue. I'll report back with more info if I get any
Maybe it's over retracting
I'm trying a print with the absolute vanilla Minion profile. Let's see what happens.
Is there a seam nearby?
