High GPU usuage OBS w/ 4090
Hey friends. I've been having this issue with my 4090 where OBS seems to want/reserve a TON of gpu usage.
Basically with HAGS turn on OBS streams/records fine but I take a massive performance hit in games (about 20-30%). If i Turn HAGS off my performance in game is fine but OBS stutters like crazy with lots of rendering/encoding lag. I've tried a ton of shit to remedy this to no avail.
I'm on a 5950x and Windows 11. My main monitor is 4K 240hz, I then have another 4k 120hz, and a 1440p 120hz.
Any ideas?

GG @itzmojo, you just advanced to level 6 !
I mean
Youâve kinda identified exactly whatâs going on lol
You either give OBS enough resources and take the gaming hit (via HAGS)
Or you make games the only priority and OBS takes the performance hit
yeah i get that but OBS needing 30% of a 4090 seems absurdly high no?
like other reports make it seem like ~5% is what it should be roughly
Depends entirely on your resolution, framerate, sources, layout etc in OBS
Thereâs no set specific usage to expect universally
Also that doesnât all go just to OBS, you just take a hit from the balancing and everything happening at once
hmm, let's try and 1080p canvas then
Would the elgato 4K Pro fix this issue if used in a single pc until I can use it in a two pc setup? How does its encoding compare to nvenc?
It would not fix anything and only add more load to your system
Youâd still be encoding with nvenc, the card doesnât encode
Oh I couldâve sworn the elgato cards had their own encoders. My bad
