1.21 personal server keeps stalling with spawn area and ultimately can’t connect.

Okay, Imma try this one again but with some pictures to hopefully convey what I am trying to troubleshoot: Basically it was working well a few days ago, but then all of the sudden on 7/30, it can’t even seem to load the world chunks and I keep getting this error message. I tried to follow different methods of fixing it such as updating my version of Java SE, jdk, and jarfix. Likewise rebooting router, adding in RAM via the run.bat, allow java through firewall, although I have not tried the DNS method yet. I’m just tryna make sure im on the right track and am open to any pointers.
Could potentially be hardware as well: The RAM I have installed is AMD Athlon(tm) X4 760K Quad core processor 3.80 GHz Graphics Card: AMD Radeon r7 200 series Mind: this computer was built in like 2014 so its an oldie but its been able to run well with 8G of RAM and 1TB of hard drive

𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
are you connecting with localhost? or your external ip (assuming PF)
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
my external
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
thats dumb when troubleshooting, take a step back use localhost and your ram is a cpu? since when did ram start to have cores and is named athlon? anyways im just kidding your ram doesnt have anything to do with this use localhost and try again
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
so when you say localhost, is that like basically LAN? Like do I change anything with the server.jar or something else within my file? I'm not too saavy with this, will admit. cause this server is basically just me and two of my old friends who are outside my network.
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
your hosting machine's lan ip the one that shows up with ipconfig
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
oh ok so the IPv4 address is the one I use for my friends to connect with
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
you connect with THIS
No description
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
this is localhost
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
I thought that's what I was referring to. okay so I just add that to the server address. for local
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
you meant your wan ipv4 not the same
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
okay so i use the lan ip, im assuming my buddies likewise will do the same?
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
no no no no stop worrying about them if your server is faulty, they cant connect either you cannot reach lan in wan
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
okay well i got the localhost running anyway just now lol
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
how are you progressing along? needs some additional eyes on this? 🙂
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
got localhost runnin
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
yes 😭 localhost connects?
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
Okay. So you're using your own computer(?) to run a server, and have you tried connecting to it? if so, what adres are you using to connect to it? This seems like a firewall issue to me, but let's have a look at connecting locally.
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
Below is the WAN

Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
I see 2 servers, "local Ranch" which is a local adres, and "Ranch" which uses an external ip? correct?
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
yep
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
okay so your server is fine its just a PF issue likely
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
Okay, so did you use server-port=25565?
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
Has this been port been opened in your firewall? Do you have a question?
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
yes?? what is this, extra confusion?
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
Then ask your question please, don't spam like this.
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Basically it was working well a few days ago, but then all of the sudden on 7/30, it can’t even seem to load the world chunks and I keep getting this error message.

@Pokeyd554 are you on dhcp for wan? check if your wan ip changed server runs, 100% not a firewall issue either PF or wan ip changed
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
I rather check everything instead of saying something is wrong without knowing. 🙂
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
ip is the same
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
When the server is online, can you check if https://mcsrvstat.us/ allows you to ping it?
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
use canyouseeme to check port okay maybe i phrased it wrong, but its very, very unlikely to be a firewall issue, windows firewall dont just close ports by itself when you opened it manually unless you mean the router firewall
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
Not saying it did. Still I'll be checking everything that needs to be used to run a server.
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
we can go from most likely to least right? 😄
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
I'm here to help this user, not argue among ourselves on who is right. Were you able to use the tool above to ping the server?
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
the most logical way is to check what is most likely to go wrong, not what can go wrong we can see if its a firewall issue if its not the router
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
for the 25565 port? canyouseeme right'
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
whichever port your server runs on 25565 is default
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
If that's the port you use, yes. Check this in the server properties file. It's likely 25565 as it's default. This works https://mcsrvstat.us/ or https://canyouseeme.org/
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
in the properties file it is query.port = 25565
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
then use that
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
What does server-port= say?
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
same thing
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
query may not even be enabled as is. So not sure that will work. Alright, try pinging it with the websites mentioned.
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
oops my bad nothing happened
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
I saw the message, so timed out. Okay.
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Ip is public info anyways Check your router to see if the nat rule still exists
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
just tryna play it safe anyways
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Or maybe your desktop got assigned to a different dhcp address (not very likely)
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
Good call, it's still a home address, that's unique. Best to keep it safe, public or not. Can you show us how you did your firewall? router and machine
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Canyouseeme isn’t able to see your port opened, so make sure your server is running, if so, we have narrowed the issue down to firewall/routing If your server isn’t running, then no service will be using that port, creating the same result
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
🤣
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
This having some fun.
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Feel free to leave if you don’t feel like helping
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
Why are you so hostile when it comes to helping people? We're both going for the same thing no? helping this user?
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Yeah, I’m just wondering why are you laughing Is there an issue with the statement?
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
Because I found it funny.
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
Anyways, let's continue. Can you show us how you did your firewall? router and machine
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
so for the firewall: is that where I allow java to comm through defender? Because I'm not sure if I did it correctly or not. or is it sup[posed to be done a completely different way?
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
Yes. Exactly that.
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
If it worked before, then you likely did it right Just ss the windows defender firewall page, and your router’s management interface
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
okay. cause i checked both the private and public one sec
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
It worked before, but now it stopped working. Do you recall any changes you did before it broke?
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
Make sure to leave out sensitive information.
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
If not, the only thing I can think of that can change without you doing it is dhcp assignment
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago

Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
Now bear with me. My assumption is that these are years worth of java versions💀
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Do you have another machine that you can run Minecraft on? Try connecting to your host pc on that one Or if you have another pc, use wsl, install nmap and nmap your hosting pc at 25565 Also @Snowman_Sir I get it, feel free to stop
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
Stop what exactly?
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
I’ll just quote you
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
That's cool and all, but what hostility have I shown you? Not sure what you're talking about. A smiley that I didn't do?
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Oh lmao It was him Apologies Anyways @Pokeyd554 the firewall page isn’t what we are looking for, there is one with the opened ports and stuff I don’t quite recall, but when I used to run my servers in windows, I didn’t (?) have to touch the windows firewall rules
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
That would be this one, the advanced firewall settings.

Pokeyd554

hmm tbh haven't heard of that one hmm lemme snoop for this
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
Ahah i think this is it

Are you able to screenshot instead of using a picture taken from a mobile device? This doesn’t help at all
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
got em
No description
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Looks fine
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
To be honest, this is not enough information. Have you ever made a rule here? if not, let's do just that right now.
No description
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Or just use new rule and open a specific port instead
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
That can still be done like this. Meaning only that application with that port can be used. Have you managed to make a new rule? do you need more help with that?
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
Only question is clarifying application cause i noticed in your example you linked it to Edge. Does it have to be a specific app or random? But browsing and creating rule is no issue
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
Specifically the java version you use. Then javaw
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Last time (a long time ago) I checked, defining a port instead does not require a specific application So go with either way
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
I don't even have edge installed. 🙂
No description
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
Okay i’ll do that and if it doesnt work the first time then i’ll scrap that rule and create a separate one Okay rule has been made
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Also show your router’s management interface Nat/port forwarding to be specific
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago

Internal ip address blocked ☠️
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
ehh just a me thing all love
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Send a screenshot without drawing over your internal ip And then run ipconfig Screenshot that as well
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago

Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
Internal IP/local IP is something everyone has. Whether it's 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1 (network class) This is not information with a privacy concern really. Externally however can be.
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Look There is the issue You are natting to 192.168.1.24 While your hosting machine is on .7
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
So let's set a static IP 🙂
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Although I’ve never observed this behavior myself, like ever Once a dhcp address is given out, I’ve never seen mine change, although it’s meant to be dhcp
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
trust issues ig. but been opening up
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
I set my first 20 ips in my subnet to be excluded from dhcp So I can move static services there Maybe you should as well
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
@Pokeyd554 do you know how to set a static IP? (one that doesn't change)
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
ncpa.cpl on run correct?
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
You can use that yes.
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
whats recommended? or rather a better way?
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
You need to create an exclusion in your router too
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
This method works fine.
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
So it doesn’t try to assign that address to something else
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
that i might need a walkthrough
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Well The exact steps differ from router to router But typically, it should be in your lan settings You should see something called a “lan ip range” or “dhcp ip range”
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
It's all preference. Anyways, go to the ethernet port (wouldn't recommend wifi) and set your local port to what you desire. You may need more information here. default gateway 192.168.1.1 Something like the second screenshot should work for you.

𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
.24* Or he will have to modify the nat rule again
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
I believe he has a netgear router, I can guide him through that if needed.
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
I’ve never touched netgear before But the names should be similar
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
aight static has been set
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Now make sure your router won’t try to hand that address out by dhcp Run ipconfig again, and check to see if your address matches the one in port forwarding
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
Just for clarity, what did you set the local address to?
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
it might have been the 24 version and not the 7
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Just run ipconfig instead of guessing
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
^ Computers are science!
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
No description
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Okay Now last step is to modify your routers settings to prevent it from handing this out via dhcp You can usually exclude a single ip from dhcp, or a range
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
Settings > Setup > LAN Setup likely for this model. I trust you know how to do this since it's fairly simple. I'll take my leave now. Good luck!
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
so basically i just adjust the width of the dchp pool that is outside of my static ip that i just set up
No description
Snowman_Sir
Snowman_Sir7mo ago
no no! Just add the IP you want to reserve below it! 🤐
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
Either way works
piggy

@𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
_.dominic has reached level 4! Roles Added: Level 4
𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
You prolly don’t need that big of a pool anyways for your own devices But ye, if you don’t run multiple services, just exclude a single one
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
i mean there are a bunch of devices connected to this router but imma go with the reservation first just added
Pokeyd554
Pokeyd554OP7mo ago
well guys the other server is back up. Thank you for putting up with a novice😅 , but I learned a lot from this! y'all were awesome. good night!
