1.21 personal server keeps stalling with spawn area and ultimately can’t connect.
Okay, Imma try this one again but with some pictures to hopefully convey what I am trying to troubleshoot: Basically it was working well a few days ago, but then all of the sudden on 7/30, it can’t even seem to load the world chunks and I keep getting this error message. I tried to follow different methods of fixing it such as updating my version of Java SE, jdk, and jarfix. Likewise rebooting router, adding in RAM via the run.bat, allow java through firewall, although I have not tried the DNS method yet. I’m just tryna make sure im on the right track and am open to any pointers.
Could potentially be hardware as well: The RAM I have installed is AMD Athlon(tm) X4 760K Quad core processor 3.80 GHz Graphics Card: AMD Radeon r7 200 series Mind: this computer was built in like 2014 so its an oldie but its been able to run well with 8G of RAM and 1TB of hard drive

are you connecting with localhost?
or your external ip (assuming PF)
my external
thats dumb
when troubleshooting, take a step back
use localhost
and your ram is a cpu?
since when did ram start to have cores and is named athlon?
anyways im just kidding
your ram doesnt have anything to do with this
use localhost and try again
so when you say localhost, is that like basically LAN? Like do I change anything with the server.jar or something else within my file? I'm not too saavy with this, will admit.
cause this server is basically just me and two of my old friends who are outside my network.
your hosting machine's lan ip
the one that shows up with ipconfig
oh ok so the IPv4 address is the one I use for my friends to connect with
wtf?
you connect with THIS
this is localhost
I thought that's what I was referring to. okay so I just add that to the server address. for local
you meant your wan ipv4
not the same
okay so i use the lan ip, im assuming my buddies likewise will do the same?
no no no no
stop worrying about them
if your server is faulty, they cant connect either
you cannot reach lan in wan
okay well i got the localhost running anyway just now lol
how are you progressing along? needs some additional eyes on this? 🙂
got localhost runnin
yes 😭
localhost connects?
Okay. So you're using your own computer(?) to run a server, and have you tried connecting to it? if so, what adres are you using to connect to it?
This seems like a firewall issue to me, but let's have a look at connecting locally.
Below is the WAN
I see 2 servers, "local Ranch" which is a local adres, and "Ranch" which uses an external ip? correct?
yep
okay
so your server is fine
its just a PF issue likely
Okay, so did you use server-port=25565?
???
Has this been port been opened in your firewall?
Do you have a question?
yes??
what is this, extra confusion?
Then ask your question please, don't spam like this.
@Pokeyd554 are you on dhcp for wan?
check if your wan ip changed
server runs, 100% not a firewall issue
either PF or wan ip changed
I rather check everything instead of saying something is wrong without knowing. 🙂
ip is the same
use canyouseeme to check port
okay maybe i phrased it wrong, but its very, very unlikely to be a firewall issue, windows firewall dont just close ports by itself when you opened it manually
unless you mean the router firewall
Not saying it did. Still I'll be checking everything that needs to be used to run a server.
we can go from most likely to least right? 😄
I'm here to help this user, not argue among ourselves on who is right.
Were you able to use the tool above to ping the server?
the most logical way is to check what is most likely to go wrong, not what can go wrong
we can see if its a firewall issue if its not the router
for the 25565 port?
canyouseeme right'
whichever port your server runs on
25565 is default
If that's the port you use, yes. Check this in the server properties file. It's likely 25565 as it's default.
This works https://mcsrvstat.us/ or https://canyouseeme.org/
in the properties file it is query.port = 25565
then use that
What does
server-port=
say?same thing
query may not even be enabled as is. So not sure that will work.
Alright, try pinging it with the websites mentioned.
oops my bad
nothing happened
I saw the message, so timed out. Okay.
Ip is public info anyways
Check your router to see if the nat rule still exists
just tryna play it safe anyways
Or maybe your desktop got assigned to a different dhcp address (not very likely)
Good call, it's still a home address, that's unique. Best to keep it safe, public or not.
Can you show us how you did your firewall?
router and machine
Canyouseeme isn’t able to see your port opened, so make sure your server is running, if so, we have narrowed the issue down to firewall/routing
If your server isn’t running, then no service will be using that port, creating the same result
🤣
Issue?
This having some fun.
Feel free to leave if you don’t feel like helping
Why are you so hostile when it comes to helping people?
We're both going for the same thing no?
helping this user?
Yeah, I’m just wondering why are you laughing
Is there an issue with the statement?
Because I found it funny.
K.
Anyways, let's continue.
Can you show us how you did your firewall?
router and machine
so for the firewall: is that where I allow java to comm through defender? Because I'm not sure if I did it correctly or not. or is it sup[posed to be done a completely different way?
Yes. Exactly that.
If it worked before, then you likely did it right
Just ss the windows defender firewall page, and your router’s management interface
okay. cause i checked both the private and public
one sec
It worked before, but now it stopped working. Do you recall any changes you did before it broke?
Make sure to leave out sensitive information.
If not, the only thing I can think of that can change without you doing it is dhcp assignment
Now bear with me. My assumption is that these are years worth of java versions💀
Do you have another machine that you can run Minecraft on? Try connecting to your host pc on that one
Or if you have another pc, use wsl, install nmap and nmap your hosting pc at 25565
Also @Snowman_Sir I get it, feel free to stop
Stop what exactly?
I’ll just quote you
That's cool and all, but what hostility have I shown you?
Not sure what you're talking about.
A smiley that I didn't do?
Oh lmao
It was him
Apologies
Anyways
@Pokeyd554 the firewall page isn’t what we are looking for, there is one with the opened ports and stuff
I don’t quite recall, but when I used to run my servers in windows, I didn’t (?) have to touch the windows firewall rules
That would be this one, the advanced firewall settings.
hmm tbh haven't heard of that one
hmm lemme snoop for this
Ahah i think this is it
Are you able to screenshot instead of using a picture taken from a mobile device?
This doesn’t help at all
got em
Looks fine
To be honest, this is not enough information. Have you ever made a rule here? if not, let's do just that right now.
Or just use new rule and open a specific port instead
That can still be done like this. Meaning only that application with that port can be used.
Have you managed to make a new rule? do you need more help with that?
Only question is clarifying application cause i noticed in your example you linked it to Edge. Does it have to be a specific app or random?
But browsing and creating rule is no issue
Specifically the java version you use. Then javaw
Last time (a long time ago) I checked, defining a port instead does not require a specific application
So go with either way
I don't even have edge installed. 🙂
Okay i’ll do that and if it doesnt work the first time then i’ll scrap that rule and create a separate one
Okay rule has been made
Also show your router’s management interface
Nat/port forwarding to be specific
Internal ip address blocked ☠️
ehh just a me thing all love
Send a screenshot without drawing over your internal ip
And then run ipconfig
Screenshot that as well
Internal IP/local IP is something everyone has. Whether it's 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1 (network class) This is not information with a privacy concern really. Externally however can be.
Look
There is the issue
You are natting to 192.168.1.24
While your hosting machine is on .7
So let's set a static IP 🙂
Although I’ve never observed this behavior myself, like ever
Once a dhcp address is given out, I’ve never seen mine change, although it’s meant to be dhcp
trust issues ig. but been opening up
I set my first 20 ips in my subnet to be excluded from dhcp
So I can move static services there
Maybe you should as well
@Pokeyd554 do you know how to set a static IP? (one that doesn't change)
ncpa.cpl on run correct?
Wut
You can use that yes.
whats recommended?
or rather a better way?
You need to create an exclusion in your router too
This method works fine.
So it doesn’t try to assign that address to something else
that i might need a walkthrough
Well
The exact steps differ from router to router
But typically, it should be in your lan settings
You should see something called a “lan ip range” or “dhcp ip range”
It's all preference.
Anyways, go to the ethernet port (wouldn't recommend wifi) and set your local port to what you desire. You may need more information here.
default gateway 192.168.1.1
Something like the second screenshot should work for you.
.24*
Or he will have to modify the nat rule again
I believe he has a netgear router, I can guide him through that if needed.
I’ve never touched netgear before
But the names should be similar
aight static has been set
Now make sure your router won’t try to hand that address out by dhcp
Run ipconfig again, and check to see if your address matches the one in port forwarding
Just for clarity, what did you set the local address to?
it might have been the 24 version and not the 7
Just run ipconfig instead of guessing
^
Computers are science!
Okay
Now last step is to modify your routers settings to prevent it from handing this out via dhcp
You can usually exclude a single ip from dhcp, or a range
Settings > Setup > LAN Setup
likely for this model. I trust you know how to do this since it's fairly simple. I'll take my leave now. Good luck!so basically i just adjust the width of the dchp pool that is outside of my static ip that i just set up
no no! Just add the IP you want to reserve below it! 🤐
Either way works
@𝒟𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝒸
_.dominic has reached level 4!
Roles Added:
Level 4
You prolly don’t need that big of a pool anyways for your own devices
But ye, if you don’t run multiple services, just exclude a single one
i mean there are a bunch of devices connected to this router but imma go with the reservation first
just added
well guys the other server is back up. Thank you for putting up with a novice😅 , but I learned a lot from this! y'all were awesome. good night!
