looking for shoes to go with a mocha suit
Attached is the swatch of the suit.
Requirements and flexibility:
- comfortable to wear
- not overly formal, ability to wear with other outfits
- good quality and replaceable sole
- open to 2nd hand
- avoiding a black shoe
- max is probably $300
Some things I’ve considered, all quite different:
Alden 663 & 561
AE Verona ii
I’ve found it difficult to pin down my Alden sizing. I wear a 9 in most things and the Aberdeen last runs a bit big on me (heel slips out, I’d probably be a 8.5)
I will need to purchase these within two months time. I don’t think I’d be open to suede due to the difficulty in upkeep

What will the pant leg be like? Slim, tapered, wide? That’s an important part of matching shoes with suits
it'll be a straight leg with very very miniscule taper
probably a quarter break
i want to be able to wear the shoes for lots of other occasions as opposed to shoes for this specific suit
Sure. It’s a more casual look, I’d personally go for a plain or cap toe derby shoe in a chocolate brown on oxblood. I don’t have any brand recs at that price point
yeah at that price point, i dont think i'd find something new that i want
Suede doesn’t require upkeep fyi
i find it more difficult to maintain than leather
I just brush quickly after wear and it’s fine. Especially high quality suede from makers like Alden
Suede is NOT Delicate
Myth: suede is delicate.
I don’t know how the myth got started, it’s entirely false. Real suede is an incredibly durable leather. It doesn’t show surface scratches or stains very much. It can get literally soaked and bounce right back. It’s incredibly easy to care for; it’s receptive to neglect and papering.
Oak Street Bootmakers +7yrs of wear
...
I mean, that post just said it took him a week of caring for the shoes because got caught wearing them in the rain, but based on this, it seems easier than what i had done in the past
That’s me, I wrote the post haha
It’s not that different from smooth leather tbh. You want all of the internals to fully dry out if they get soaked thru
maybe i've been poorly caring for my shoes all along
I think i've opted to go for a horsebit. lookign at oakstreet, meermin, rancourt, AE, and carmina
