Plugin question

I'm developing a hub/lobby plugin and was wondering if there were cross server compatibility features, would server owners use a plugin like this? Like players can select particle effects or preference over certain of the plugins mechanics? So far I've just got a doublejump/fly preference that saves to usermetadata but, if this is a feature people would enjoy i woud add it (obviously would be an opt-in feature)

What do you mean by ‘cross server compatibility features’?

as in like, players can select preferences over plugin mechanics such as doublejump/fly or maybe cosmetics but they wouldnt be locked behind a paywall (if the server choses to do that) if you opt in, you would have them on all servers that use the plugin im explaining it really badly but pretty much its just a boolean in the config to opt into the feature, it would connect do a database and get user preferences and active cosmetics from there instead of locally

ohh so essentially for multiple hub servers?

this would also be for entirely different networks

ohh I can see the use in it..?

so like server x and server y both opt in to it, player that plays on server x joins server y for the first time and his preferences are saved

fair enough

its a qol and a bad thing for the owner at the same time good, because people can leave other servers to switch to yours quicker and not have to fiddle with settings again, bad because it makes it easier for people to quit your server without thinking "oh now i have to go setup everything as i like it again"
cal
calOP6mo ago
why is that a bad thing for the server owner exactly? because the player has less playtime on his server or

well yes, less playtime, less players, meaning even less players stay

I mean the plugin would have to get pretty popular to actually see this in action The chances of a player joining server A, setting up their preferences then joining another random server that just so happens to be using your plugin is very slim. I don’t necessarily see the harm in it, but then again this only helps a player, not a server owner. I don’t rightly care if a player has a better QoL experience on a server that’s not mine in all honesty I want them to have a worse experience so they come play on mine instead kek

right the downsides appear at the same time as the benefits exactly thats the point i was making, and loosing players and playerbase/playercount i would see as a harm but /shrug/

Usually cross-network features in a plugin go… bad. Yall remember that ban plugin that was horribly misused by the dev who saved punishment data on thousands of servers and used it to get OP on them?
cal

fair enough will avoid then thank you no… do you know what it was called..?

Mcbans or something like that

punishment data on thousands of servers and used it to get OP on them?
what? how can you get OP from that lol

He put a backdoor into his plugin Not from the data itself
Jenkins

Well anyways, for this plugin it isn't even that bad

By it I meant the plugin

I'd love to see cosmetics from one server show up in the other one Not sure why you'd want that though, considering people use cosmetics for monetization... And that prevents that..?

my thoughts exactly

you can always just opt out of it if you want to lock it behind a paywall
Jenkins
Jenkins6mo ago
Well, how will people gain them then?
cal
calOP6mo ago
all allowed by default
Jenkins
Jenkins6mo ago
If you do that, then everyone will have access to the cosmetics technically Right

i could lock them behind my own paywall but effort and im not desperate for cash
