I decided to pick up a server in germany instead and I'm getting latency results of about 150ms in the midwest (roughly illinois region) should be fine for a non-competitive mc server, right?

are you in the midwest?
Harrison

depends if your players are fine with that

as long as its stable 150 players should be fine with it it would be like playing hypixel from eu🤷‍♂️

you'd need some sort of ddos protection, so add on that latency too

hetzner comes with ddos protection however I do not know how good it is
Harrison
Harrison6mo ago
very awful which is why I said about ddos protection

would be a very expensive solution for MC servers common options are tcpshield/neoprotect for proxying the MC server
wttbtt
wttbttOP6mo ago
let me look into those
Harrison
Harrison6mo ago
ive only used tcpshield out of the two

this is my first time hosting a public minecraft so I'm not super familar with all the security and stuff

I'd recommend hiring a sys admin or something

I'll probably do that at a later date I think for the start I can handle all the system stuff, it's not my first time doing server maintinence or running a minecraft server

alright

Do note a panel can leak ip if done incorrectly causing neoprotect/tcpshield to be ineffective
wttbtt
wttbttOP6mo ago
a panel as in something like multicraft?
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk6mo ago
God please dont use multicraft but yes Use pelican/ptero
