oi wsp ill help ya let the forces be x and 8-x considering the resultant to make 90 degree angle with x then 12^2 + x^2 = (8-x)^2 now you can do the rest
Abhi
AbhiOP7mo ago
hey x value is coming negative which is not possible as magnitude is always positive

BroGotNoQuotes7mo ago
is it so?
Abhi
AbhiOP7mo ago
yeah I solved it thats why I also posted it here. I solved using your equation also maybe as angle between the two vectors is greater than 90 degree so, cos theta will be -ve

ig by magnitude, they meant just the value, don't consider the sign without considering sign if answer satifsies the equations formed then ig tht should be it! i m getting 13 and -5 which is satisfying

The answer I got is 13, -5 [ lmk if u want the sol for it] Usually in question when they ask magnitude of something it means that u just ignore the -ve sign/ give mod of the value u get So mod 13 and mod -5 which is 13 and 5

Well our teacher completely ignored this fact and said that it was a trick ques and you have to arrange vector differently like in the photo

Which I don't think is right

Shouldn’t the resultant point towards the tail of B?
Abhi
AbhiOP7mo ago
that was my response also but I guess my teacher dosen't want to accept his mistake and is covering it under the blanket of trick question I was comfirming If I was right here

stormycloud7mo ago
Oh not big fan of sirs like that, well acc to me it should point towards B def confirm it tho, did u get the 13, -5 ?
Abhi
AbhiOP7mo ago
yes I got 13 and -5 and I wrote the magnitude as 13 and 5 as magnitude can't be -ve
stormycloud
stormycloud7mo ago
Yes when they ask magnitude it means it is just the number or as I said mod of the actual value

ok thanks +solved @stormycloud @BroGotNoQuotes
