Windows sound playback device stops working

I am having a strange issue where the Windows sound playback device, whatever it is set to, stops producing sound. Whether set to the mobo soundcard, Focusrite interface, or Voicemeeter channel, it shall intermittently/randomly stop. The only way I have managed to get the audio back has been to reboot the pc, recycle power to focusrite, or restart Voicemeeter software engine. I’m confused what my next troubleshooting step should be.

How exactly does it stop producing sound? Is there anything happening or maybe triggering?

Did you update all your drivers including the windows sound devices and the focusrite? I would suggest using this tool (which is the only trustworthy driver installer around, and it's open-source): https://sdi-tool.org/download/ Download it, launch it, choose to only download indexes, then after it does so just update all your drives (except maybe GPU ones), reboot if you need to

I have not noticed any correlation. Sometimes it’s during a game, sometimes during music, during video editing, sometimes when nothing is playing and then I realize it when I do something with sound. I didn’t realize that Windows itself had a sound driver. I’ll attempt this method when I get home.

It's more so that the "default" driver is your mobo ones that are present on the back of the board and you may also have front panel ones that are technically a different device driver

Ok so. I'm going to do a full backup of my PC tonight, and hopefully I can use SDI tomorrow.
