Debian 12
Can you provide a simple one line explanation?
Reliable, most things are built on top of it (Ubuntu etc), lightweight
Thank you for your kind reply.
yeah Ubuntu or Debian
Ubuntu is my go to
same here
But just a warning if you try install pterodactyl make sure you follow the Debian instructions in the community guides section
For Debian
Good community support, lots of forums, and itβs a good starting point to run just about everything
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
debian is very minimal and ubuntu is basically improved debian
also based off debian so anything that runs on debian should also work with ubuntu (at worst with a few changes)
Iβve seen more tutorials on how-tos for ubuntu than Debian
24.04 LTS might also be fine but it's very new so it's not that much supported by software yet
So it might actually be easier
^^
Nah use 22.04
Iβd use 22.04
yeah I'd also suggest 22 for now
Iβve seen 24.04 break stuff like dotnet
yap
Get Debian 12
You should try out the server installation too, I personally find the desktop version a little annoying compared to server, having a gui slows things down for me
it is though
what?
??
^^
also ptero doesn't support 24.04
afaik
it... does.
huh
it does?
aaaand I still run things bare bones π
not officially
but it works
Just get Debian 12
33rzDy.png
I just wasted 43922 bytes on this image
Very lightweight.
getdebian12
Cent, rhel, ubuntu, pick Ubuntu
Why are you all promoting Ubuntu so much lmao
It has practically zero differences to Debian
Cause itβs good
it works, it's based off debian and it's well supported
Only difference is that it has bloat and is made by C*nonical (ew)
Debian 12 is better
it's practically debian with all your QoL and packages you'd install on debian either way
debian12 vs Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
What should I choose.. I'm new to this so it's difficult
debian is very bare bones
ubuntu is debian + more stuff
Debian 12.
Ubuntu 22.04 lts SERVER EDITION!
ubuntu 22.04
god damnit
why not just get debian 12 though
omg π
^ server
using ubuntu isn't worth it
debian exists
says the bad take man
Blehh
certified jenkinsβ’οΈ moment
this one is not a bad take
just get Debian 12, it has literally no difference except for being lighter
Ubuntuuuuuuu
You need something that Ubuntu has built-in? You can install it with one command
I need the ubuntu neofetch :minecraftTroll:
ubuntu is basically debian with QoL
Just get RHEL
rhel is actually good though
it's like stripping windows off from everything including the antivirus because it's "bloat"
Not bad but I prefer ubuntu
sure you don't want the bloatware but is it that necessary to strip everything just for a bit more performance
yeah don't listen to jenkins π
it isn't stripping everything
I can run Debian 12 with like, 60mb ram idle
Ubuntu Server doesn't go below 150 even if you push, idles at about ~250
There is zero reason to use Ubuntu over Debian
ah dammit 190mb extra ram usage on my 64gb ram server!! what will I ever do?!
It isn't worth it
There are zero differences
people in the thread disagree
I'm not sure why you're pushing Ubuntu so hard
so why fight
debian if you want a completely bare bones system.. ubuntu if you want useful stuff preinstalled
Because one is made by a worse company and has unnecessary resource usage
Aubrey OS
Go for the cutting edge technologies: Ubuntu 24.04 and install Pelican
π
I'm not sure why you're pushing Debian so hard
Oh nooo it comes with useful packages pre-installed
1- I hate Canonical
2- Canonical is a greedy and bad company
3- Ubuntu isn't worth it
So just say you hate canonical instead of implying ubuntu is bad
You read all of them.
You know what I meant too
What did canonical do to you
Nothing to me, they're just a greedy megacorp overall
Also Ubuntu just is not worth it
Debian is good
so i assume you never use amazon
or apple
or google
Yes, I never used either
well good for you you're so morally just and revolutionary
OP should still use ubuntu
easier to use and assuming he's going to install pterodactyl/try to run a server he's going to end up needing to manually install all the packages that ubuntu comes with preinstalled
Literally
You are farming your own wheat when thereβs pre made flour readily available
Just cause that flour is grinded by some big corpo means you canβt consume it?
Oh no, how disappointing! He needed to go sudo apt install wget
Such a waste of time
And do I even need to mention the instructions for Ubuntu also work 100% fine on Debian?
At this point, mint Linux
that is.. not a server distro
Also you mentioned βUbuntu isnβt worth itβ
Implying thereβs any sort of cost or downside to use it
Other than some corpo greed take that nobody here cares about but you
It has no upsides
If you need something Ubuntu has preinstalled it takes 5 seconds to install
Debian is lighter and also more stable
