Black loafers
The Rancourt sale is offering some black weltline loafers. I'm tempted, but wondering if the weltline style is a little too formal and I won't wear them as often as I'd like.
Yay or nay, MFAD?
Any other recommendations at a similar price point?

yay; as the copy says it's "slightly more refined than a beefrool" aka the shoe i typically wear with all sorts of stuff
I have a pair of brown pinch pennies that I like because they are dressier than beefrolls. But weltline seems like another step towards dressy. Maybe too far? Maybe I'm overthinking.
only concern for me would be perceived redundancy ie do you have a pair of black beefrolls/pinch pennies already
i do think you might be overthinking - the lay person will just see black loafers while menswear nerds will probably appreciate the difference. in a pinch you could avoid shining them so they read more casual
I have no black loafers.
It's a huge void in my life, and it's affecting my happiness and causing me to lose sleep at night. (kidding!)
If you’re on the fence, it’s probably better to wait and see if they add more options later.
Worst case they don’t and the welt lines that you’re not quite sold on sell out. Best case they add their black horsebits or beefrolls again
I think the weltlines are better than the beef rolls tbh. I’d hesitate to call them more “formal” but more refined more like
Yeah, I agree about them being better than beefrolls. I'm comparing them to pinch pennys. Which is now really starting to seem like overthinking. 😀
I'll probably dither for a couple of days and then pull the trigger.
Either the pinch or the weltline are nice. I think I prefer the pinch but it is kinda splitting hairs.
My only other thought is that these aren’t unique styles and you can prolly find options that are similar for vvv cheap on eBay from other brands
Every time they offer these I consider getting them but I haven’t done it yet. I have 2 shades of brown beefroll from Rancourt and they’re among my favorite shoes. But their black beefroll doesn’t look great to me because the edges of the penny overlay are brown.
