nvidia 690 gtx help pls
noob here, how does one go about installing a driver for a 690 gtx ninvidia?
found a file from there website, but every time i try to run it, it returns "not root" and if i try to root first using "sudo -i" and then "sudo whoami" it returns root, but then the command line for installing it does not work any more.
btw here is the command ninvidia wants me to run "sh ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-470.103.01.run"
from what i understand the sh should ask for a login if your not a root user already?

we don't offer support for older nvidia drivers like 470
and it can't be installed by an end user
sorry
will older amd cards work? i have a 290x saphire i can swap in
might work on desktop, will run terribly
why is that?
lack of support for modern vulkan extensions
will require a very old version of proton, and will run most titles poorly
mostly i want to run factorio, would that still need to run through proton? proton is waht exactly? sorry for all the noob questions
yes, but that's opengl iirc
so it'll run fine
with the adm 290x?
yep
and if i put the 290 in, do i need to install the drivers, or are they already packaged with the os?
through some sort of application, considering you said it cant be done user side
no need to install drivers here, ever
you can't install older nvidia, and AMD is built into the kernel
kk, well thank you, ill slap that 290 in and see what happens. how does one mark this as resolved? or does discord do such a thing?
