What exactly are these "leather" pants made of?
Thrifted these "leather" pants with no tags on them.
I've tried various tests to see if they are made of real leather. Would like to hear some opinions.
Evidence it is leather
- it burns like leather; it curls and chars when hot, and extinguishes itself as soon as the flame source is gone, unlike plastic fibres which would catch fire and melt
- it feels like leather; it wrinkles and feels soft, much like my leather jackets
- the underside is this hairy suede, no visible mesh like with synthetic leather
- it smells like leather; faintly aromatic, no harsh plastic smell
Evidence it is not leather
- doesn't absorb water quickly
- the sections are whole; typically leather clothes are made of many smaller parts stitched together

Can I ask: why does it matter?
More curious than anything. I suspect it isn't leather, but at the same time it is very convincing.
Usually when I see fake leather it is very obvious
I wanted them to be real but after wearing them I think I'll keep them either way; theyre comfy.
Just curious: where/how did you burn them??
Lol. I cut a thin strip from the inside where it was folded. Here is one of the strips. Curled and charred, but it didn't continue burning when the matchstick was pulled away. Afaik this is typical of leather
Plastic would also melt, which this did not. However it just seems too good to be true to be real leather.
I assume it is like leather that has been "blended" and glued together? Which would explain its response to these tests
Sure looks like leather to me
I don't think pleather would bother faking the nap underside
Thanks. That's what I thought too.
its probably just leather with a painted finish
tbf iirc care is different between leather and pleather
