Freenote Cloth
Made in California, consistently solid quality in everything I’ve tried. The sashiko CPO is especially nice, really comfortable

I love their waxed cotton jackets. Been very tempted by their jeans, but haven't gotten one yet. I really like a lot of their rockabilly shirts and leather jackets but MSRP always feels a bit too high to justify.
Yeah, prices are high, but so is the quality. They’re having a sale right now, 15% off
Yeah, I'm sure the stuff is worth the price but I don't have any local stockists and their leather stuff is way more than I'd be comfortable spending just off measurements. I'll probably pick up a shirt sometime later this year when it gets cooler.
My biggest issue with them is I am constantly expecting just a littttttle bit more for the price. More details, more texture…just a bit more. I have a couple of things of theirs and across the board I’m never really blown away
Their styles are pretty simple, seems to go for a rugged American look. Made in California must add a good bit to the premium. Definitely not a high value proposition. I do appreciate some of the subtle details like nice horn buttons and the only outer labeling being printed on the side of the buttons, pleated shoulders on their casual shirts.
The action back and satin sleeves on their wax jacket are really nice touches.
I actually just checked out Freenote’s stuff for the first time on Friday! Was doing a SoHo NYC shopping afternoon with my girlfriend. Hit up Blue In Green, RRL, Meermin, Merz, etc. But we spent the most amount of time in Standard & Strange looking at Freenote Cloth items. By far the favorite of everything we saw on Friday. Extremely “American”, but in a really good way. Not over the top “American” like RRL and with really nice global influences.
Didn’t find any stellar Freenote deals on eBay or Poshmark after getting home, but I did notice they have a last chance section on their site with items at 30-50% off. And then the extra 15% off was running this weekend as well, which I believe is pretty good for them. (As best as I can tell, Black Friday last year was only 20% off.)
I’m trying to be more deliberate with my purchasing and wait at least 24 hours to confirm if I really want something, so checked back today to make some decisions. Ended up grabbing the Currant Navy shirt for $119 (down from $280) and the Dayton Stripe shirt for $106.25 (down from $200).
Very excited to start building out my Freenote collection! I’m pretty budget conscious, so I expect to focus on eBay purchases or on new stuff that is 40% or more down from MSRP. Both seem very doable. Thanks!
Their Hawaiian shirts and jackets are my favorite offerings from them. The cut of their shirts doesn’t go oversized, nor does it go slim fit, it’s just right for me
I got the Hawaiian Mariner Stripe. Outstanding shirt, great fit and material
I ended up buying so many pieces from Freenote over the last month and a half! It's become a bit of a problem...
Anyway, I've been wearing the Freenote t-shirts and hawaiians pretty much constantly in July and August. Great stuff. Love the Tiger hawaiians in particular. With summer coming to an end, I'm excited to be able to wear more of the long sleeve / heavyweight stuff pretty soon. And I'm actually headed to Jackson Hole next week, so will bring along a few of the different Western shirts plus some jeans.
If you have any questions about their various pieces, definitely let me know! I've likely either bought an example of that style, or have researched it while waiting for an eventual deal to pop up.
Here are my most recent Freenote purchases:
- Midway Pant in Brown Wool
- Midway CPO in Indigo Sashiko
- Deck Pant in Stripe
- Wilkes Western Cut Jean in 16oz Indigo/Brown Denim
All still on the way. I'm very excited about the Wilkes jeans and the Sashiko CPO in particular.
Also, I've bought every Freenote piece so far with some sort of discount/sale. The very high MSRPs are definitely intimidating, but deals are out there if you search carefully and/or are patient.
The discount I've gotten off MSRP has ranged from a low of <10% on a t-shirt to a high of >60% on several long sleeve shirts. I even found a pair of jeans in my size for ~50% off and another pair of jeans for ~25% off.
The average discount I've achieved has been between 40-45%, but the brand and products seem worth it even if the discounts were much less!
I picked up their Duster pant recently and really like it so far (although it's a bit warm for summer).
Love the duster pants! Really great looking western trouser. Haven’t been able to find any sales for that one yet, but will keep looking.
The sashiko CPO is my favorite purchase this year — love the feel of it!
Awesome! Super excited about that one. And got it for over $100 off, so was a pretty sweet pickup.
Nice! I think I got like 10% off at an in-store sale. It’s great to be able to try everything on right there. The staff are great. Nice place to hang out for a while
They're running a labor day sale this weekend, but I can't tell what's new vs their usual last call page. Further reductions?
A few further reductions, but mostly new colorways now on sale. A bunch of good Benson colorways added for example. I recommend the Cobalt Plaid in particular, that’s my favorite shirt from them by far. The Benson in Midnight Navy Plaid is nice as well, was just looking at that one in store yesterday.

I grabbed the Wells in Navy Polkadot, the Alta in Black Plaid, and the Alta in Blue Lagoon Plaid.
The Alta in Blue Lagoon plaid was definitely tempting me. Gives pendleton vibes
I checked it out in a store today actually. Was lighter weight than I expected, but I think should be warmer than the actual weight given the wool and the lining. Great color for sure, looked awesome in person.
I've been interested in a wool flannel recently since it's a bit more temperature regulating than cotton (of which I have way too many)
I ordered the long-sleeve Hawaiian LS in Anchorage blue plaid. My other Freenote Hawaiian is my favorite short-sleeve shirt, so I’m looking forward to this.
I thought about going over to the store this weekend and maybe saving the shipping fee, but I’m pretty sure I would’ve ended up spending even more money
I def hear you about the spending too much on this stuff, particularly when on sale! Thankfully the local Freenote/RRL/Indigofera/etc. stockist out here in Jackson, Wyoming (where I’m staying for the week) doesn’t do any sales, so was much easier to hold off on making any purchases. So many cool pieces though from all those brands, was great to try everything on for the first time, particularly the expensive outerwear. Def going to grab a Freenote Riders jacket if I ever see one on sale. Or perhaps grab a used one from eBay if in good condition.
Def let me know what the L/S Hawaiian is like! I’ve typically done solid colors for linen long sleeves, so was unsure how that pattern would look.
I’m with ya on the Riders jacket. Pretty sure I’ll get one someday. I tried on a ton of stuff the first couple of visits to the local store, so I can pin down the sizes — anticipating the future sales purchases
Just copped the Riders jacket in Oak for 20% off from Manready Mercantile. They have a few colors in stock, but only the oak had size large in stock. Discount automatically applied in cart. 20% seemed good enough, haven’t seen it for sale much deeper than that ever.

And in my continued insanity for Freenote, I discovered that The Shopkeepers in Santa Barbara has the RJ-3 13oz Indigo Denim jacket with the corduroy collar on sale for 30% off. Pretty sure this jacket is a recent release, and isn’t on sale anywhere else at all. Size charts say it runs a bit slim, so I grabbed the one XL they had in stock. Medium and Large still available though.

I picked this one up as my first purchase from the brand last year and was hooked
Nice! That’s exactly the one I just grabbed last night from Manready.
Enjoy. It's a great piece
I haven’t decided on a color yet, but that’s one I’m definitely considering.
Good deal on a Freenote Calico w/ turquoise buttons from TheRealReal. Size M, $105, and looks to be in good condition.
