MC 1.20.1 Missing chunks in certain places?
The mod works really well overall but there's some chunks where it just... does not want to produce LOD rendering. I've moved over this many times, restarted the app, etc and it still does it.

what if you stand in that spot, turn off shaders, turn cpu load in dh's settings to agressive, and wait a few minutes?
I sent it to aggressive played in the area for an hour. Still unloads it's LOD chunks when I fly away.
I've deleted the .sql file and restarted the process of generating the chunks a few times now. It's really funky how it works. It seems arbitrary, being a different location each time.
very weird. mods list?
I'm not sure how to get a text list of the mods. I'm going to disable some mods and see if DH is still doing it when on it's own. I'll get back to you soon.
sure
This is on Forge 47.3.4. Only mods are Chunky and Distant Horizons.
I set it to a circle shape, radius 2000, and let it generate. And it makes this. It's like it just gives up after making the closer chunks. Am I doing something wrong?
Okay. I restarted the client and reloaded into the world and it appears at this.
It seems to get most chunks but refuses to get some still. It's weird.
🤔
why are you using chunky though?
chunky is known to create issues like this, especially if you have DH's distant generation enabled while chunky is generating
It's generally what I've seen suggested. Is there a better alternative?
yes, DH itself
it already has a chunk generator
I was not aware
Random googling has bamboozled me
lol
How do I tell it do this?
Because I want to generate a preset of the world, so we can see distant environments without having to walk to them first.
go to dh's settings and turn cpu load up
it should already be generating, but turning up cpu load will speed that up
So it passively does it? Like just sitting in the world?
Also, sorry, let me explain what I'm trying to do.
I'm hosting a server for friends. We want to see cool distant mountains and such. I've seen it suggested one can load the world into single player and generate the LOD chunks. So that's what I'm trying to do.
yes, as long as you have
distant generation
enabled in dh's settings
yep, thats correctIs there a way to do this in multiplayer at all or do I have to do the single player workaround?
sorry for the all the questions
no problem!
there is the #Server side fork
if you install that on both the server and client the server will generate the LODs and send them to the client
but its still experimental so crashes are not out of the question
Hmm. I suppose I can look into it. It maybe crasing sounds spooky though.
Thank you for your help
np!
(remember to make often backups)
So just sitting in the world in single-player, how far out will it passively render?
to the render distance you specified in dh's settings
by default that is 128 chunks
oh I see. I got it on 500. Thank you again
np!
Honest question but is it supposed to generate it like this? I would think it would generate the closer chunks and spread out, but it's seeming random/arbitrary. I guess just wait more?
Okay, it does seem to be filling in actually. So never mind 😅
It's not supposed to generate like that, but if it fixed itself, oh well
