Accessing my Crafty panel from another network

As the title says, I want to be able to access my Crafty Controller panel on a different network from where my server is. My server is currently at a relatives house since my router doesn't support port forwarding, and I want to be able to edit manage my servers without having to go to their house every time. How would I go about making this possible?

you would have to open an external port for the panel on your relative's router, and get their external ip address (not a private IP address, a REAL ip address). keep in mind if it's a dynamic ip (an ip which changes over time, which might be the case) you would need to retrieve the new ip address every time (although it's very easy, you can get your relative to google "what's my ip address" and hand that over to you)
Private network
In Internet networking, a private network is a computer network that uses a private address space of IP addresses. These addresses are commonly used for local area networks (LANs) in residential, office, and enterprise environments. Both the IPv4 and the IPv6 specifications define private IP address ranges. Most Internet service providers (ISPs)...

not only open the port, you'll want to port forward, so ur router knows which pc the panel is on. This would be the exact same way you'd portforward a minecraft server

Crafty panel only uses 8443 so I would port forward this correct? And then I would type in the public ip for their network and add on :8443?

Yes, but like I said before, if they have a dynamic IP (changes sometimes) you will need to get the new IP address

It’s static, I checked before. Just double checking, so instead of using the IP Crafty gave me to connect to the panel when I’m using my relatives network, I would use the public IP when I forward port 8443? And is there a way to make this more secure if necessary?

wireguard or tailscale practically a vpn to said computer that doesn't require port forwarding but rather just using the private ip

Use a vpn Do not port forward your panel

💀 You could check to see if your router/modem supports vpn Some higher end ones do If not, then use algo (wireguard ) or openvpn Or, if that different network prohibits vpn, set up a windows 10 client within your local network, and configure Remote Desktop, port forward that Then you can Remote Desktop into your own network and login from there

i think port forwading the whole desktop through RDP is worse than port forwarding just the panel

VPN is the trump card, forwarding anything is a last resort

Should I do this on the main Proxmox VE I have set up or the Ubuntu VM that is running Crafty?

I’ll try this when I get the chance so I can close this if it works @Deer Jerky sorry for the ping, after setting up tailscale and connecting my server and laptop, would I just head on home and try and connect using the same IP I use over at my relatives house, or are there other steps?

Pretty much yeah Did you port forward tailscale? I'd test using your phone's mobile hotspot on cellular BTW to make sure everything is good

What port does tailscale use?

Oh I'm an idiot, their docs say it should just work - I haven't used tailscale before myself lol But yea test it before you leave

Got it working! I had to connect using https and the port that the ip at my brothers house has. Thank you for the help! !close
