Seeking Social Media Fashion Inspiration, What are Your Go-To Platforms?
I’ve recently become increasingly interested in levelling up my fashion. As such, I’ve been exploring various social media platforms to get inspiration and see which communities are best to engage with.
Reddit seems to be one of the better platforms, but I was wondering what other social platforms you guys use for fashion? Why do you use each of these (including Reddit)? And is there anything you wish these platforms included to improve the digital fashion experience?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated as I begin seeking inspiration for a wardrobe refresh. Thanks heaps!

to what extent do you want to use the platform?
for just finding fits instagram and tiktok are probably the best but MFAD is my favorite because of the ease and breadth in discourse
(see also: #waywt and #inspiration )
@zeometer Depends, I find that if I'm happy with my wardrobe I casually browse through instagram or tik tok, but recently I've been looking more into styling, brands, etc. The community aspect seems to be really useful, would you say that you gravitate to the discussion format because it is more helpful than a typical post?
People just say shit in a format like reddit especially like the generic ones like mensfashion
I've never really tried engaging with any kind of fashion community before, so I'm trying to gather just how much of a difference it has made for everyone
Like if you actually looked the baseline of knowledge is just different
Most of the time there's no fit pic attached to those accounts on reddit
And that's really the biggest qualifier for advice imo
If your fit is good it's good so your advice is prob good too
That's a good point actually
Ya imo reddit is pretty dogshit for social media fashion at this point.
MFAD (here, this discord, not the subreddit) is cool for the social part and like z and egg said waywt and inspiration are generally pretty great, and discussions are usually engaging and worthwhile.
IG & tiktok can be solid for just fits, but you're also gonna be battling the algo the whole time until you find specific accounts u like.
But also engaging with fashion outside of social media is smth id highly rec. Runway shows, lookbooks, history... there's a lot out there beyond socials.
Damn, as someone new looking at MFA on reddit, it looked promising at first.
By all means engage on r/mfa if you want to, but many people here have moved on from reddit's prescriptive advice.
And, IMO, r/mfa never really grew past its peak (which was nearly a decade ago). Idk there's v much a mindset that they've "solved" fashion over there.
Discord is the original MFA community tbf
There's no real consistency to the kind of posters in the reddit and that goes for the other fashion reddit communities
Yeah I migrated from mostly lurking MFA to mostly lurking here becauseI love that the advice here tends to be “what are you trying to go for?” “Try this, try that.” “See what you like.” The variety on the waywt is great, and this place is much more about advice to find your own style.
Rather than advice on what to wear exactly.
(Unless you’re trying to look extraordinarily normal in a foreign country. We might become the go-to server for such queries.)
i went to reddit a few days ago and the first thing i saw was a guy swearing that wearing shorts makes you look like a child and that's really all i needed to see
But OP, I had the same question as you a few weeks back and someone pointed me to Pinterest. It’s easy to scroll through lots of different fit pics by searching phrases. I can’t vouch that it’s hipper than IG or TikTok, but it’s been helpful for me
This is great thanks a lot. I've never really understood pinterest, but a lot of people seem to gravitate towards it for fashion inspo.
Would you guys say that as a whole having a community in fashion has been helpful for you?
Depends on what you want
Some people just need to ask some questions and don't care for actually discussing which is perfectly fine
Others love yapping
I've been lurking fashion spaces on the internet for 15 years and this is the only one I've been active in, fwiw. It's just a solid community.
Out of curiosity, what do you think happened to the reddit for it to turn out the way it has?
A lot of subreddits got gutted last year when Reddit changed their API terms and destroyed 3rd party apps, preparing for their IPO. MFA was one of the subreddits that went dark in protest. When it came back on it had almost all new mods
As far as I know
Everyone ditched it and came here
Mmm I see
