Brand Spotlight: Universal Works - Topic of the day 6/29/24

"Universal Works was inspired by David’s formative years growing up in a provincial Midlands' town in the seventies, part of a working-class family that loved to dress well, seeing his Dad and Uncles in their workwear and also when dressing for the weekend. "

One of my first big boy purchases was a UW bakers coat from Canoe Club. I loved it and wore it work at the grocery store and at my office job :’) There isn’t anything they’re doing now that excites me though. Maybe a black bakers jacket and some wider chinos would be a fun workwear coded “suit” a la @Elvander I think they’re a great solid entry point brand if not a little pricey on this side of the pond

Their “suit” options are nice but tend to not fit me very well - I have since found uskees as a workable alternative. What I do love are their fatigues, because they have a nice high rise (even for me) and generous cut. Overall UW is a bit expensive for what you’re getting though.

They occasionally do unique kantha jackets that always land when I don't have the budget but they are incredible and I'll grab one some day.

Surprised this thread is so dead because UW should be right in line with what people here like Their fabric is just not great a lot of the time and stuff fits weird unfortunately Feel like it fits shorter people the best, their pants are nice and loose in the top block but always taper way too much. And their tops are smaller than I feel like they should be for what they’re trying to do

tbh I dont wear it because the prices dont seem to justify the quality or the cuts there are just too many other things I like more at those prices

I have two UW bakers jackets, one Nebraska cotton in L and another herringbone wool in XL. For a brand that seems to centre itself on an oversized silhouette I’m surprised at how small their sizing runs; the large jacket just about fits me while the XL runs the same as a Uniqlo medium. And yes, their prices are too high for the materials they use.

UW's military chino cut 👌👌👌👌 I really like the photographer's jacket they introduced a year or two ago https://flaneurs.net/vestes/5990-universal-works-photographers-jacket-sand.html And they've been doing nice things with fleece
