I have three pairs of birks. Birks good. Birks comfy. Birks break in can be a little rough but shouldn't be too bad if sized properly, or just buy the soft footbed versions.
Birks good but my last pair was ruined by getting caught in torrential rain with them

Three days deep into breaking in a pair of Bostons, not as bad as I thought. Arizonas actually more of a pain to get used to.
Why the difference? I only have arizonas
Mostly to do with the straps near the toes on the Arizonas, not an issue with Bostons obviously!
