Hosting modded server on a gaming laptop
Me and my friends (5-6 people) are thinking about starting a minecraft server. I have an Asus F15 I could use to host the server and was wondering if it would be worth using to host it. My internet speed is 50 Upload and 150 download. We are planning on adding origins, origins++, and terralith. In addition, I have modified my laptop by adding a 16GB stick of ram increasing my total ram to 24GB.
Questions:
Should I use my laptop to host the server?
Is there anything I should be aware of?
Does hosting a server make my Wi-fi network vulnerable? If so, what should I do to secure my server?
Should I be concerned regarding power consumption and overheating?

Should I use my laptop to host the server?I think your specs should do fine with the mods you have planned
Is there anything I should be aware of?It's pretty straightforward to run the server when you've got port forwarding all setup !cgnat
We may have bad news for you :C
Open your router's configuration interface. Somewhere you'll see something like 'external' or 'public' IP.
If your external IP is in one of the following ranges, you're basically screwed as long as portforwards go:
- 10.0.0.0/8
- 172.16.0.0/20
- 192.168.0.0/16
- 100.64.0.0/10
- any IPv6 address/range - This shouldn't be a problem, but Minecraft's IPv6 support is still rather quirky. You're at your own but we're happy if you share your experience.
You should ask your ISP for a public and IPv4 address (but this may cost you money).
NB: your internal IP should and most probably will be in one of the first three ranges, don't mix them up

check if you're behind NAT before proceeding
Does hosting a server make my Wi-fi network vulnerable? If so, what should I do to secure my server?not really, unless there's another application on your home network (on your laptop specifically) also listening to the exact same port (or minecraft has a backdoor/exploit that no-one's discovered yet lol)
Should I be concerned regarding power consumption and overheating?Shouldn't be an issue if it's just you and your friends since you won't be needing to run the server 24/7 (you can if you want to, but you'll draw 200 watts of power around the clock then)
