Players timing out on self-hosted paper server
Hi, I'm trying to self-host a 1.20.6 paper freebuild server, and one of the players (across the atlantic) cannot connect at all without timing out after a few moments. Another player (same region as server) was on for about an hour before getting timed out two times in a row.
The error code in question is shown in the picture. Does anyone know some things that could cause this?
My connection is all hooked up with ethernet, it's FTTC but not slow by household standards.

So far I have tried:
- Stock paper server
- Default java flags
Try a plugin that tweaks the default timeout time
try getting them to use https://1.1.1.1
1.1.1.1 β The free app that makes your Internet faster.
Install the free app that makes your phoneβs Internet more fast, private, and reliable.
i would test it but it's not ideal for a public server
not you, him.
routing generally isnt much you can do about
aslong as your host isnt complete shit, with insanely bad routing
well assuming it's an issue with him and not me
then fair
most likely is a issue on his side.
I looked this up and found a suggestion to lower view-distance from 16 to 12, and network-compression-threshold from 256 to 64
max view distance shouldnt matter, its based on what the client has
the server MAX sends what the client has set
in newer versions of mc
oh he just says it can reduce the "loading terrain" of client loading
from 2018
the server literally doesnt send anything more than the client has set their view distance to.
i understand, so if their view distance was higher it would now send less
not that its likely to fix the issue i guess]
i havent found a plugin to tweak the timeout, not sure if im searching the wrong thing. timeout-time in spigot.yml seems to not refer to what im looking for either
