cannot check off DH during iris installation
I am quite new to this sort of thing so please forgive me if this is obvious, but i am unable to check off the the "use distant horizon beta version" during my installation of iris. I've tried with two different pc's at this point with the same issue. I've tried to just check if DH and iris will work anyway, but it doesn't, but i can make them work separatly of each other. I am using fabric and the newest installation of iris, DH and the api, and i am also using complementary shaders, if that is of any importance.

Probably not yet updated for 1.20.6, instead just install Iris 1.7 from https://modrinth.com/mod/iris/versions and DH 2.1.0 from https://modrinth.com/mod/distanthorizons/versions and then put them into your mods folder.
Also make sure you have the latest version of complementary shaders
Also, afaik DH API is embedded in DH, so you don't have to download it as a extra mod
i tried with making an installation with fabric -loader- 0.15.11-1.20.6, and then tried to load the dh mod and just iris without the fabric api, but the game crashed with exit code 1
but if i remove iris it works fine
Oh, you mean fabric-api. Fabric API isn't embedded in DH and is required from Iris, so you have to also have that.
Iris also requires sodium and indium
