Need with wardrobe overhaul- UK based, 1k budget! (JP/US Streetwear & Techwear Inspired)

Hi ppl, gonna start with some background and explain what I'm looking for, if too long, my bad. ----- Similarly to some, I don't really have a good fashion sense - unlike most, it's out of conscient negligence rather than ignorance. The only area I have any knowledge in are sneakers being frank. I've always been a function-over-form person but I took it too far and want to change that and enjoy expressing myself via clothing. I know I need a large overhaul: I ain't completed the basic bastard but that's mainly because my dark completion would benefit from more colour and I could not be fucked back then. Also, I hate shorts and white sneakers - it's weird I know. ----- So, what's my plan? My general idea is simple and can be summarised to two types of outfit: function and flow. I want to develop a wardrobe where some pieces have a specific purpose: outfits for work/dates would be "functional" as their intended purpose is to impress positively on others/inspire positivity in myself; technical outfits speak for themselves. The "flow" outfits are simply reliable and allow me to keep moving. I don't mind getting scuffed up or randomly running somewhere and I like having items of clothing that move with my step or the wind. These outfits would be more casual in general; allow me to slap anime/gaming tees when I'm going to cons/ LAN sessions and up the edge for Metal gigs! I'd like to develop something that versatile enough that I can mix and match as I see fit and experiment based on how I feel. My use of techwear would be more smart/greyman than just STRAPS and Acronym and I want streetwear staples alongside JP traditional (Sashiko/Aizome) and Yohji-inspired pieces. Oh and, simple shit, my favorite color is blue and I want to wear it a fair bit (READ: Fuckton). I wanted to write way more and can do but I'm uber tired and worry about rambling: how should I get started? How could I plan two standard outfits and two "statement" fits for "function" and "flow"?

if you're looking for techwear, especially affordable techwear, go for nike ACG and arc'teryx veilance as a starting point. orbit gear has nice bags. on the higher end, there's acronym and aokuware (bags).

Have a look at these guides and skim them https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1125076626665910332/1125079844804382811 You already know kinda what you want . You just need to distill that down into what to buy by setting a budget I'm pretty out of date with UK techwear, but Reddit's techwearclothing might be a good bet to ask in There's a good UK streetwear startup scene so you might find some nice things in addition to big brands like ACG, etc

Ah, good point - I have an initial budget of around £1k or so; will probably need to extend this over several months.

also tip: don't spend all your money super fast. Your taste will change as you start to discover what you like. Give yourself time to evaluate whether you really wanted that jacket or if the other one was better. Don't buy clothes you won't wear. Hope you find what you're looking for 🙂

Ty ty! I did have to slow down, was prepared to blow this all at once - luckily I got good friends who are also more fashionable than me lmao. I'm making two shopping trips this week, mostly window shops but might get a steal if it looks good across the board. Just try fits and prioritise what outfits I need soonest. I have some good inspo that fits my ideas but it'll be a challenge to build a wardrobe without a plan and some examples; given my build being somewhat challenging to buy for (short torso, long legs, slim build ;p). I think it'll be especially hard to find somewhere in london that'll stock noragi/hakama without a price tag that makes me want to reconsider my life choices XD. But I gotta find it to know if I actually like it. The "Yazuka" fit, I'll come back to in a separate thread - there's so much here to learn from all on it's owm!
