Short men's shorts, no cowards allowed

Who is still making short shorts? I'm a short guy who likes short shorts. A 5" inseam is too long, and only cowards hide the goods. I don't care about trends, trends led us to the faux hawk and horizontal striped polos and it seems like we're hurtling towards a revival and frankly? I'll be having none of that; I read Hudson's Guide To FTM Passing in 2009 and that was the "irreversible damage" they talk about these days, in my opinion, iykyk. Anyways, my needs are simple: • <5" inseam • comes in black, I will die before wearing khaki (or any color at all, but khaki is enemy number one, for me) • not athleisure, cutoff, or a swim trunk • XS/27/otherwise small waist sizes Is anyone brave enough to still be making something like this? Are there keywords I should be searching on ebay? I have been wearing the same cutoffs for nigh on ten years now and I am SICK of it. Let me show off my legs!!!

3" running shorts are abundant. Quite a few brands sell 3" Chino shorts in their women's collection (eg J Crew, GAP).

i'd love to avoid both running shorts and women's shorts if possible!! athletics always offer like half of a functional pocket which drives me nuts, and being a grizzled veteran of the aforementioned Hudson's Guide To FTM Passing i have a regrettable aversion to the silhouettes that women's bottoms seek to create and i will 100% give myself in a complex in a fitting room over it (but i appreciate the support for my cause here, we have gotta get these hemlines shorter) now we're talking!!!! who was ASOS ripping off with this!! even nicer shorts are out there..... they must be. we've got to go deeper

you could try to find "stubbies" in a smaller size lol. Idk if they're easy to find where you are (assuming you're in the USA?). You could also just get some nice 5" shorts and get them hemmed to <3". You could even get 28-29 inch shorts taken in at the waist too although some construction methods can make that more expensive or difficult to do (e.g. it's harder to do it if there's no seam in the back of the waistband.)

budget? they’re pricey at $125 but i love my imogene and willie canvas lounge shorts. 4 3/4 inch inseam, drawstring waist, good build quality. just bought a second pair in brown but their faded black was a close second. it’s 20% off rn for their sale so comes to 100

imogene + willie
the canvas lounge short in faded black
we wanted to make something we could wear in, wear out, and wear anywhere -- without having to think twice... or even once. featuring side seam patch pockets, an intentionally shorter inseam, and an elastic waistband with a functional drawstring, it's truly made for everyone -- and anything.

try rugby shorts, i've got like three pairs of patrick rugby shorts, the pockets are great, real short and like £10 if that.

the length on these is excellent but it seems like it'll take some searching to find plain black ones; my beef with athletic wear/athleisure is that i hate both visible logos and elastic waists. but still a great lead for people who don't mind these things though!! (i'm also in america so the variety available here might be limited)

is the existence of an elastic waist on a 'traditional' short a full deal breaker?
