What Helldivers 2 settings do you use?
I tried over a dozen different suggestions from https://www.protondb.com/app/553850?device=pc and I have tried out 6 different proton versions and I can't get the game to run.
The closest to "running" was on ProtonGE 7.55 with no modifiers would let me run the game and do the setup procedure but as soon as I got to setting the audio config in game it would hang indefinitely.
Every other attempt results in the anti cheat launching then a black screen and it instacloses.
I'm on a PC AMD 3900x, RX 6800XT, with dual monitors (1440p @120, 1080p@60)
How well does HELLDIVERS 2 work on Linux and the Steam Deck?

Make sure above 4g encoding is enabled in your bios
Also called amd smart access memory or crypto currency support in some cursed mobos
Thanks for the suggestion.
So I looked in the BIOS as well as the manual https://pg.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B550M%20Phantom%20Gaming%204/index.asp#Manual (asrock b550m phantom gaming 4) and I don't see anything regarding "4g", smart access memory, SAM, or crypto.
I'll keep trying different combinations of proton/configs as a lot of people say that they have it working, I just have to figure out what they're doing differently.
look here https://download.asrock.com/Manual/B550M%20Phantom%20Gaming%204.pdf
page 75(81 in pdf), below csm there is "Above 4G Decoding"
Oh damn it is there! thank you!
As soon as I fix the "configure display settings" menu that I broke (trying to get HD2 working) I will enable that. Seriously thank you!
Either they used a picture of a Dev build bios or I need a different bios because that setting doesn't exist.
That might explain why its not mentioned in any of the writing.
you need to disable csm to enable SAM
also it is possible that you need to update your bios first
oof 0/2
CSM ruins your performance, and then lack of rebar harms it further
also means you'll need to reinstall windows if you're dual booting due to this mistake
I have to update my BIOS then because when I disable CSM theres no options on that page.
Could you explain this further or share a link where I can learn more?
Disabling CSM results in my PC not even posting. Would I have to disable CSM and then reinstall bazzite? Like with CSM disabled when I save & exit it just goes right back to the BIOS menu after powering on.
Fwiw I am not dual booting so Windows isnt a concern.
CSM is a support mode for booting 32bit Windows XP
It disables a ton of features of your hardware
Limits your memory
And more
You want it off under all circumstances
Thanks for explaining it!
I think I broke my install of Bazzite anyway at this point by disabling the second monitor in the UI so if I have to reinstall it won't be the end of the world.
I'll figure out how to get it to post with CSM disabled then.
Probably the drive partition table? Afaik csm uses mbr and disabling it requires you to use gpt partition
I think there is a way to convert mbr to gpt without data loss but im not really knowledgeable here
It's all good, I just reinstalled the OS as I am not too far into it yet and like I said I broke my profile by using the configure display settings so it's really no loss.
On a related note, yeah even with CSM disabled there's no option for 4g so I'm still looking at having to update the bios at some point.
So, while I don't have a 4g option to toggle in my BIOS the suggestion to disable Compatibility Support Module (CSM) seems to have resolved the matter.
After disabling CSM & reinstalling the OS I proceeded to install HD2 (steam) and using the default settings/proton it works "out of the box". Thank you & @asen23 for your time and effort with the explanations & help!
is it actually called this in some BIOS? lmao
yeah one of them is msi, it confuses a lot of people lol
lol amazing
