Horrific FPS and Temps while using Iris
Recently just made the Massive switch to Fabric and Iris and I realised that my FPS was significantly lower and my CPU Temps were higher when I was using Optifine. Any help would be appreciated (Really dont want to switch back lol) 1.20.4 Modded

What's your list of mods?
You're running Sodium right?
Iris I don't think needs sodium to run shaders but I know that without sodium performance is pretty bad
also make sure you are NOT running Iris in debug mode, the support team can tell you more about how to disable it
I thought Iris came with Sodium my bad
wait nvm i have shaders installed
I don't know why its doing this. I never had any problems with Optifine now im having alot of problems with Iris & Sodium.
I'm pretty sure it does come with sodium
Sodium should be installed because otherwise you're going to be basically running shaders with no optimization
I've never heard issues with Iris or Sodium in terms of performance
I've tried alot of things and it just keeps lagging.
i seriously dont know what to do any more
Hmmmmm
:Genghar_Sips:
You want a link to a modpack I made called Base Optimizations that has Iris Sodium and a few other mods that increase performance? I know it works flawlessly on my machine and doesn't lag at all
F3 screenshot please?
How do you turn off debug mode, gotta ask before I forget
Shift + P in the video setting if I recall.
A nice
I personally didn't check.
Yep loading in now
Complementary shaderss are installed
Ryzen 5 5600x and a RTX 3060ti
46 fps?
Please tell me that's not what you're average FPS is
I was suttering when I took the photo
usually 70-100
Ok
You have V-sync enabled...
:linus:
someone told me in Reddit to enable it
In my experience an overheating GPU typically causes a lag spike though as Hardester said, V sync can cause issues (which for me, and my weak system, it hasn't weirdly enough)
I have a Overheating CPU
though if your GPU was overheating you'd be getting lag spikes down to like 10 fps
and really really bad input lag
Ah I see
what're the temps?
if you're hanging around 80 C then you're fine
No other mods I assume?
if you're hitting over 90 then get an AC unit
not gonna lie highest I got was 90+
I have some mods but nothing that would tank FPS that mad
I've hit 90 something on my GPU, CPU doesn't do anything but sit on it's ass
No, this is not the best solution.
I'm kidding sir
What CPU cooler you have?
:linus:
IMS is watching you by the way.
Stock one getting a new one soon. The Ryzen 5 5600x's Cooler is so bad lmfao
:harold:
Yeah you may want a better cooler if you're hitting over 80 degrees constantly.
IMS, OUR LORD AND SAVIOR
Over 80 is fine AMD Said that over 95 is really bad
if i am not mistaken most modern cpus can withstand 100+ may be completely wrong though lol
100 C I think a lot of people say is the safety margin of sorts
yeah
you top 100 and go over and you know you're going to blow a fuse or crash the computer
im pretty sure my pc has a setting if the CPU temps go over 100 it just shuts down my pc to prevent damage
Yeah that's a good thing
Alright FPS is fine now Temps went kinda down from reinstalling Shaders ill keep this updated.
You can try limiting your FPS
lower the limit to something like 120, that way the CPU won't fry trying to get that many frames per second into the GPU
I think
someone also told me to give Mincecraft more Ram and that lowers temp
with shaders and mods I recommend 6 gigabytes of ram
8 if you're running a particularly big modpack, 10 if you're running Distant Horizons and shaders
over 10 is useless
do you know how I giveit more ram?
In the launcher settings
are you using the official launcher?
if you are then you should switch to Prism, it'll make life so much easier it's not even funny
yep
Yeah I recommend switching to Prism 🤣 Easier to mod with and has settings for each instance of the game you install
yeah gonna switch
It also allows you to install mods inside the client which is one of the best inventions in the whole history of Minecraft launchers
bro I just changed my Ram from 2 to 4 and I am on 90 FPS and I am not going above 84
thank you so much!!!!
you mean below 84, that sounds about right
stable fps above 80 with Complementary set up right on a decent GPU sounds good
:thonkwithshades:
Oh, right. Memory allocation.
:harold:
Yeah, minimum of 2 GB has started to become limiting for Minecraft. Even more so when playing modded.
Yeah I dont understand why they havent raised it
most people who play Minecraft on PC arent there to play Vanilla
I can run on 2 gigabytes no problem so long as I'm not loading a ton of mods
:mojank: are not obligated to change it for modding support.
:linus:
I actually could run the Tekkit Modpack with over 100 mods on 2 gigabytes, it would just freeze periodically while loading mods
but once they all loaded it was fine
yeah I understand but again most people who install Minecraft Java are there to play Modded lol
Indeed
Minecraft isn't worth playing unmodded
