My game started to randomly crash with shaders
in the past 2 weeks, my game started to randomly crash with shaders. I've been using the same ones for 2+ months now, and it didn't crash once until 2 weeks ago. Now I cant even play 5 minutes with shaders before a crash. I dont know if its related to iris, or an incompatibility with a mod
error code: -1073740791

How much RAM do you have in your system and how much is allocated to Minecraft?
I ask because the error is that your drivers are running out of memory, so you probably have too much allocated
And/or you are experiencing a memory leak somewhere. I would try without any mods besides sodium and Iris as well
8GB allocated out of 32GB
its not a mod doing it, crashed with only fabric api, sodium, iris
task manager screenshot right after the crash if that helps
Are your drivers updated?
yes (at least they should be as I reinstalled them (from geforce experience) yesterday)
Hmm
The last thing I can think of is using DDU to wipe your drivers and reinstalling them
I'll try that
looks like it works now,
havent tried with other mods yet
now continuity is crashing the game
might this be an incompatibility?
Which version of Continuity you have?
continuity-3.0.0-beta.5+1.20.2.jar
latest on modrinth I think
Youβre missing indium
Continuity depends on it if sodium is loaded
I too, have not been able to solve it....
This is my mods folder, am I missing something, am I missing something, am I missing something?
I couldn't solve it either, I reinstalled my gpu driver, it was good for about 3 hours, now its crashing again
I might try to reinstall my pc, maybe that fixes it
(also crashes with no other mods than fabric api, soduim, iris)
I have also thought the same, reinstall the game or as such the whole system...
Oh my god this thread saved my life
Ive been having this issue with shaders and I could never pin point the issue
Ill have to try the DDU and see if it fixes the issue
I normally have 16 gb of ram allocated
But I use ZGC
So I kinda threw an assumption that it would solve any ram allocation issues
Its mostly for replay mod rendering and litematica pastes
Ive always had some issues when I have over 18 gb allocated, I remember minecraft became half unplayable at 32 gb of allocation
I have 40 GB of RAM for context
I've only just started getting this issue but it's weird. It's only when trying to render in Replay mod and it's a progressive issue. It started with just Complementary (and euphoria), then it spread to Rethinking Voxels, then Solas... But then shaders like Bliss, Kappa and Shrimple work fine.. and hit the system a LOT harder. Like I'm able to use 8+16GB of shared memory without issues.
DDU hasn't fixed it.. So part of me thinks it's maybe an issue with Replay mod.. because it's honestly a terrible mod. But that doesn't explain the progress nature of this issue.
Have also tried underclocking my GPU and whatnot.. but that didn't do anything.
For me it fixed it for about 3 hours... My main pc is intel+nvidia, but I have a rog ally so I could try it on that. Maybe its an nvidia driver problem?
havent crashed yet on my ally
It's possible? But this was occurring on a month old driver + the most recent.
I think on my pc it started with a driver update, and when minecraft crashes, other apps die too
Huh.. π€ The trigger for me was a different replay recording render. Maybe it's just because I typically don't end up in a situation that causes it frequently..
Did you have a windows update recently? Might be a combination of factors.
for me it occours when I'm loading chunks on a server or on a singleplayer world
Huh... Which is when it fails for me with replay mod. (When you start a render it loads the chunks again)
Though it doesn't occur in other instances...
I have replay mod downloaded (and I use it on my server)
I could try to render something and see if it crashes
Like it's possible it's just that one recording for me and you have a different issue...
looks like replay mod works for me
Well well well...
reading this again, my crashes started with complementary too, solas also crashes
Ok.. so.. it might be world/replay dependant...
I tried another replay recording and it's working perfectly. Now both of these recordings are of the same world.. just different parts of it. One is mostly desert and another is jungle/swamp. I wonder if it's partly related to that..? Gonna test without a resource pack too
Oh.. ok...
I only get an issue with the resource pack enabled on this single replay... (maybe other stuff too, but not tested it). I imagine it could be some weird interaction between certain blocks + shader which is triggering this issue. Which might be why I only found out about it yesterday and not earlier.
hmm.. I can try to make a new world any fly around any try to see what crashes it
Mmh. Might be the best approach. I'll do the same
got a crash
between a cherry blossom biome and a jungle, the moment I looked at a cherry blossom tree
(shader: solas)
Game logs will be useful. Please send them here.
π€ I don't have any cherry blossom trees anywhere on my world.
I'll upload them shortly. Just testing a few more ideas
Native code triggering access violation? That's not good.
Also, how about game logs?
That's a native crash log, for future reference.
wait nvm, it was a flower forest not a jungle (there was a vilage tho)
As expected, you are running out of VRAM, somehow.
I had like 1GB free when it crashed
Huh. The error there is different to what is in my console.
Similar but different. I don't get an out of VRAM error... Plus I'm only tracking 4/8GB (24 including shared) VRAM usage via HWINFO64/MSI Afterburner with no spikes.
Might need to open a seperate issue...
Yours is definitely a different issue. However, yours might be fixable. Try removing Enhances Block Entities and see if it works.
Unfortunately not. I'll create a separate issue...
I tried playing on my rog ally, it didn't crash... Even though it has 2GB less vram and 20GB less ram
So.. Maybe it's a Nvidia Driver issue? (I fixed my issue by just assuming the replay was borked).
i think im having the same issue? i can't even have the game open for more than 30 seconds sometimes without it crashing completely
Nvidia card?
yep
running an rtx 2060, tried launching with a bunch of different ram allocations and it still crashes really quickly
Try testing with the smallest set of mods for Distant Horizons and Iris working, see if the problem persist. Report back if you still experience crashes.
ill def try test with different sets of mods but i'm not even running DH which is weird
:thonkwithshades:
:harold:
:blosh:
i figured out that my game stopped crashing once i disabled my resource pack? is this a fix for anyone else?
:thonkwithshades:
What resource pack and what resolution?
Because, well, high definition resource packs impacts VRAM usage significantly.
i tried multiple and i dont think it matters
i tried whimscape and reimagined which are both 16x
my game crashes with default resource pack, so I dont think it matters
hm
