bomber or Harrington jacket recommendations?
I really want to get a Harrington jacket, but I can’t find anywhere to try on size for them as most of the recommended one seems to be from UK, so I was thinking of getting a bomber jacket instead.
Do you guys have any bomber jackets recommendations? I had one from h&m, but that didn’t last very long.
If you guys have any other Harrington jacket recommendations, then let me know too.
I’m 5’8 and about 130 lbs
Thanks!

Budget, do you want one that fits slim or oversized, so you have any pictures of bombers you think look good?
Oh, good point about budget. I forgot to mention that. Preferably not more than 150 as I was considering a Ben Sherman Harrington, but couldn’t find anywhere to try on. And I would prefer it to fits slim
Something slim like that
Re: sizing - measuring a jacket you own and like the fit of and comparing that to an online retailer’s size guide may help.
Because bombers and Harrington jackets are as popular as they are, a LOT of brands will have had their take on them. There is a VERY LARGE secondhand market of these.
I don’t know enough about the specific delineation, but MA-1 style nylon bombers tend to look less close to the body than Harringtons or more modern bombers which usually just borrow the elasticated cuff, collar, and pocket details on a zip up jacket.
Alpha industries, carhartt work in progress, polo Ralph Lauren, baracuta (the goat for Harringtons), Avirex
And the list of usual brands incl bonobos, Uniqlo, Abercrombie and fitch, etc will all have their takes
Ah ok - it seems like you’re not looking for a flight jacket style bomber then 🙂
There are ~8100 results here if you want to filter further by shipping location, color, and size and maybe remove “flight jacket” https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=(slim%2C+athletic)+(bomber%2C+harrington%2C+“flight+jacket”)&LH_ItemCondition=4&_udhi=150&_sacat=1059
I’m not sure if many places will have these types of jackets to try on in person because it’s summer.
You may also want to look at “coach jackets” which have different details but tend to fit close to the body.
That’s true. I could wait until it gets colder where they’ll have jackets in stock.
Yea, I was looking for something that I can use in a business casual setting. It can go both ways. I think flight jackets style are more casual so I was looking more closer to Harrington style
I hear great things about the Baracuta, but I didn’t want to spend so much on a jacket and it doesn’t fit right. If I knew how it’d fit, then I’d definitely get a Baracuta for sure!
if you're looking for a harrington try to keep an open mind for brands
ebay has a lot of vintage harringtons that are basically the same as baracuta but not nearly as expensive because the brand lacks name recognition
Yea, I don't mind the brand. I just want them to fit well
You have any other brands you recommend in particular?
baracuta is the gold standard if you can find it, but most "heritage" brands (j.crew, brooks bros, etc.) will have a variation usually each season
vintage sears menswear shop and sir jac are good finds if you encounter them online. it's a true harrington fit (cropped and slim) but not as expensive as baracuta
Alright, thanks for the tip!
I have a Everlane bomber jacket and it fits me very well.
Are you around the same build as me?
5‘6“ 135lbs, this bomber jacket definitely works better on slimmer guy.
What size do you have? Small? Medium?
Extra small
Can't go wrong with Ben Sherman Harrington at the price. Size M based on your build - although it doesn't fit "slim" - but looks dressy.
Do you have a fit picture I can see?
Oh, I was thinking I’d be a small, but good to know I could be a medium. Really need Nordstrom or somewhere I can try them on
You could give Small a try if you'd like
Do you have a fit picture so I gauge it?
Not at the moment - and am travelling so don't have the option to take one
What I can add is that I wear Size M for Uniqlo (L is too big). Size S for Banana Republic outerwear.
and not into baggy fits at all
harringtons are traditionally meant to run small so it's best to go off the actual measurements of the garment vs you
this one is a vintage Sir Jac harrington; it's tagged as a 36 (XS) and yet it barely fits me when closed (5'10", 160, usually fits M/40R suit size)
Oh dang, I may have to do XS then. Nice fit man
thanks
And XS still might be too big on me if that’s how it fits you haha
i would not take that as gospel though, vintage sizing tends to be different and secondhand goods tend to be affected by washing
i think you're probably looking for XS or S depending on brand; if you see one you like Google for its sizing chart to see how slim or roomy they make their clothes
Thanks! I’m in no rush so hopefully I can find something by next fall
