YT streaming + vertical + Multi RTMP to Twitch

Looking for some general recommendations for settings. I'll post screenshots. Biggest things I'm unsure about are: 1. Bitrate 2. For vertical, whether I should "Use main OBS settings" or manually specify the encoder options

Since you have the bandwidth, Iā€™d just use the same settings yeah

Does ā€œuse main OBS settingsā€ mean it just copies over the same settings? In other words, itā€™s not the same thing as ā€œuse stream encoderā€ right? Iā€™ve always been unsure about that Because as it stands I usually just copy over the same settings for both vertical and horizontal. And Iā€™ve wondered if thatā€™s the same exact thing as just selecting ā€œuse main OBS settingsā€ Like if youā€™re not going to specify different settings, thereā€™s no point to copying over everything manually, I assume

I believe thatā€™s what it means. Just similar encoder settings The resolution isnā€™t tied to that option so it should be fine

With the network speed I have, do you think it would be worth shooting for a higher bitrate? Like 15-20k? I only hesitate because my last stream had ā€œencoder overloadā€ which I usually never have, and I wasnā€™t sure what was causing it The only thing Iā€™ve been able to notice is that my CPU usage has been high, around 80-90% total in task manager and process lasso, with OBS using like 25-30ish% Discord and Chrome also using a lot of CPU, and also Camo Studio (software for using iPhone as webcam). Those seem to be the main culprits One more thing: With bitrates in the 10k range, should I be turning psycho visual tuning off for streaming? Or even on Twitch at 7500, should I turn that off? Addie I wanted to ask, do you recommend p1 when using av1? In your OBS course you recommend p7 for YouTube, but perhaps youā€™ve learned something new between then and now

Profiles lower than P7 or 6 do not make much sense when streaming at higher bitrates to YouTube, as there is enough information for the encoder to work with without having to use a more intensive encoding profile

Well the opposite there P6/7 are the hardest to run But yes Greg is correct in that with high bitrate streaming Iā€™d just do P1/2

Frick, you are right I need to not reply to questions without caffeine lol

And youā€™d say like 10mb bitrate is high enough in this case to just use P1 or P2?
Addie
Addieā€¢8mo ago
Probably If you have the headroom could try closer to P5, but wonā€™t make a huge difference

With AV1 10mbps is pretty good

I'm going to experiment with between 10-14mbps for horizontal, but i feel like i shouldn't "waste" bandwidth on vertical and just keep that no higher than 10mbps Oh also, does it hurt to be using 320kbps for audio to YT? I've seen some people say it's capped at 128, others say 160, others say 256 lol I can't get a clear answer I believe Addie has said 160 for streaming to YT.

YT "official" recommendation is 160

jenksOPā€¢8mo ago
Is that what you would set it to? Or do we know of any downsides Because usually 320 is a no brainer

If the str3am goes through just fine at 320, yolo?

True true, i believe I donā€™t have any issues at 320 Stream went well tonight, no discernable issues at 320, so that's great Someone mentioned noticing some "stuttering" on Twitch, so I'm not sure what that was about. I could see enabling look-ahead for Twitch with max b-frames 3
HunterAP
HunterAPā€¢8mo ago
You should use 2 b-frames for twitch
jenks
jenksOPā€¢8mo ago
i thought with look ahead it could help, because then it will basically decide whether to use between 1-3

This is what my settings are right now

HunterAPā€¢8mo ago
You would want to disable lookahead and enable psycho-visual tuning Otherwise that looks fine
jenks
jenksOPā€¢8mo ago
i'll try that for next stream and see if that works. Last time I streamed I had "encoder overload" and couldn't figure out what was causing it, so I disabled psycho everywhere, and it seemed to help. So hopefully turning it back on is fine we shall see

HunterAPā€¢8mo ago
You probably don't need that enabled for yt since AV1 is just so good H264 for twitch on the other hand needs all the help it can get
jenks
jenksOPā€¢8mo ago
Yeah, I previously had it enabled for YT + YT vertical + Twitch. Itā€™s possible thatā€™s what caused some issues šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø But maybe if I just turn it on for Twitch weā€™ll be okay Just finished streaming tonight, and for some reason my main YT stream dropped to 325kb/s https://obsproject.com/logs/Ot21d22MQORp84Vn My YT shorts stream was completely fine at 14k bitrate. My Twitch stream was completely fine at 7.5k And speed test showed i was getting 1gb down and 1gb up
