LAN Multiplayer support?
I am playing on 1.20.1, hosting a LAN world, having a few friends join me, exact same modlist. everything works perfectly for me (using Iris + DH 2.0.3a) but they are not generating LODs at all.
Is this mod supposed to function via LAN the same way it does on a multiplayer server?

distant generation only works for others up to what your vanilla render distance is set to
if your buddies set their vanilla render distance to 2 can they see LODs? if so everything's working as intended
Yeah I get that they can only generate LODs for chunk that have rendered, but even when moving all over the place (ie- travel 2000 blocks), they don't have any LODs generated if they turn around to look at it
check f3 and look for the section in the bottom right labelled "distant horizons". if the task count is slowly ticking down, LODs are being generated where they explored earlier
LODs might take a while to catch up with where you're at if you move too fast
hmm, this all happened last night for reference. We played for probably 4-6 hours and they never had any LODs generate the whole time
Oh shoot sorry i did not include this in the OP- I am using one of those LAN PNP mods, I don't think that would affect it, but I should note.
Lots of mods installed, but it does work fine for me locally, and all other mods are functional.
DH might not know where to store LODs in this case
by default DH uses what you saved the server as in your server list to differentiate different servers
understood. i should boot up a second instance of MC and attempt an actual local LAN connection and see if it works there, that will rule it out. Will report back.
sounds good
literally no clue what i said that was deemed illegal XD
swearing makes the bot angry
this server will fix my bad habits. i didn't even realize i swore. i think i said something negative about not being able to port forward on my network hahaha
you can get the message back if you hit ctrl-z a couple times
yep i used the alternative word for poo. didn't even realize 😂
righteo, looks like it is functioning perfectly fine when connecting from the LAN, so i'll have to double check my friend can't see the LODs
friends cant even connect to my pnp LAN world anymore, not working now. trying to launch server but crashing from DH
now just confused- i am reading that distant horizons has no server support, but i found a server "fork" jar in here... but last night, @Yeshi (GMT+2) was saying it should work fine, just only generating the chunks i have already rendered with vanilla MC
you need to run the fork on both the server and the client
should wait until pshsh merges in the 2.0.4 changes before using it though. it's still on 2.0.2 which is far less stable
I couldn't get it to work at all using the fork on both server and client. I currently have that configuration now but the server crashes if i try to load my world instead of creating a new one
this is the error i get when i try to load my world. i already deleted all the sqlite db files in the server world
i don't really care about stability its just drivin me nuts that i can't get it to work at all lol
You should ask pshsh directly in his thread, he knows the most about it
#Server side fork
Sure, thank you for the direction.
