Semi-formal Attire Requirement

I am going to Laufey's concert in a month or so which is a night event. According to the details of the concert, we are required to dress to a semi-formal OR formal attire. What I have working rn is a pair of beige pleated pants and I'm too scared to make a mistake since I do not want to stick out like a sore thumb for underdressing or overdressing. Please help.

So, nobody really knows what those words mean anymore. But I personally interpret that as "jacket and tie"

beige pleated pants sounds like a good start. I'd assume they don't actually mean formal attire for this in a classic sense. What are your options for tops?

Laufey's audience skews young, so most of her fans will have pretty limited formal clothes. Don't worry about sticking out, if you're dressed nice I think you'll fit in fine. As far as specific things to wear, the other people in this thread are both good advice givers.

I personally would not call that semi-formal. But as @Please Go Away pointed out, as long as you are making an effort to look nice, that might be totally fine.

What would be the best innershirt to wear? And a belt would definitely be mandatory, no?

like I said, the classic safe choice would be blue or white oxford cloth or pinpoint oxford.

Sorry for being doodoo, is it the coat or the shirt inside
jfarrell468
jfarrell4683mo ago
that's the shirt the jacket you posted seems fine. but if you already have beige pants, the color might be too close and look wrong.

Oh, so a matching color of a coat and beige pants dont look good?
jfarrell468

if they are exactly the same it will look fine. if there is enough contrast, it will look fine. if they are close but not exactly the same, it will probably look wrong.

Ah...hmm since my pants also came from Uniqlo they probably are the same colors But thanks for this, I'll write this down How about for the shoes that I should wear @jfarrell468 Sneakers are nono, yeah? Or would a black loafer or triple white sneaker work?
jfarrell468
jfarrell4683mo ago
Black loafers would be fine.

White socks and black loafers yea?

Honestly, though...it's a concert. If you're going to be standing up, I'd probably just say "screw it" and wear sneakers.
Zypheros

Yeah, thats also my thought haha we'll probably be sitting for the entire concert since its a jazz concert But

Nobody is going to be looking at your feet. Just my opinion.

Yeah thats also something to consider Maybe I'm just too conscious about how I'd look during the queue LOL

Look through #waywt-highlights . There are probably people in there wearing sneakers with coats and ties. We do weird shit tho.

Thank you! Last question @jfarrell468 If I wear an actual shirt instead of a dress shirt underneath, is it still "semi-formal" or does it really need a collared piece of clothing for the top
jfarrell468
jfarrell4683mo ago
What do you mean by an "actual shirt"?
zeometer

imo "semi-formal" implies a collared shirt; you might be okay with a button down collared shirt instead of a traditional 'dress' shirt

I have nothing to add that hasnt been said but a dresscode for a concert is wild in this day and age

might not be a dress code specifically for the concert but maybe for the venue itself? i've attended a few events that generally wouldn't have a dress code but they enforced one just because the event was being held at a country club or similar venue
The Real Digs ™
Yah i guess thats true if its being held at like a concert hall or something that does operas or plays and such.
Zypheros

Yeah its a cultutal center of sorts so I think its more of a venue kinda ruling

Do you know if there'll be enforcement? Or is it just a suggestion? I've been to plenty of classical concerts and operas, and while most people dress up I would still see the occasional person in a t shirt and jeans
Zypheros
Zypheros3mo ago
Most likely gonna be enforced. I've spoken with people that have been to concerts in the same venue and yea
jfarrell468
jfarrell4683mo ago
I would think if they are going to enforce, they would need to post clear rules sonewhere Because nobody knows how to dress "formally" anymore
