Can I get a fit check / advice on Allen Edmonds' Park Avenue?

There seems to be a lot of room in the outside (enough for a pen to fit in), but are snug otherwise making me think they are fitting as intended (i.e., fit me well). I'm also a little confused why the sole of these shoes is different than a typical Danite sole.
