new here :) got 2 questions, what's my face shape, and what haircut should I put ontop of it?

Been tryna figure out my face shape for years. Been told rectangle, oval, oblong, square, and pear (wtf is pear??). As for the hair I'd prefer something where I didn't have to spend all day styling it, I lean twords wanting a messier look but honestly I know nothing about hair so you tell me what I need.

I will make 2 suggestions to get better advice in this scenario 1 - face shape categories and rules are pretty bogus and I wouldn’t worry about them. For glasses or sunglasses or hats or whatever the best thing to do is try them on and see if they look good on you. 2 - Hair is tricky to give advice for without knowing how you dress or how you want to be perceived. I could suggest a very clean cut look but if that’s not your jam then it’s not good advice for you. Posting some pictures of things you like or the vibe you’d like to go for would help people offer better advice. There’s definitely not just one right answer.

Thank you so much. This is all very helpful. The problem with hairstyles is that you can't try them on 😂 but I get you

Agreed hair is tough. My hair is long and I figure one day I’ll go completely shaved or at least super short. Hard to make that leap when you know you’ll never be able to go back though.

And I'll try that! I do see some styles I like Damn 😕😕 yeah man I understand. I just don't want to totally fuck my shit up I had it way longer last year but cut it in March 2023 to some shaggy hairstyle my barber gave me, it was frightening at first but honestly after a week or so you get used to it You're just so used to seeing yourself with long hair that everything looks weird, like when you see someone without glasses the first time

To some extent changing the way you style it can give you some room to experiment as well

Hmm okay, honestly I've never really done any styling, would you have any recommendations for things to try? My hair is about shoulder length and is straight, medium to thick thicknesses

Most of what I’ve tried is tying it up in different ways, bun at different heights, etc. there are others around the discord that have done more hair-down styling but it’s not my expertise

Okay! Do the different tying styles have names? I faintly recall seeing something about a "Viking" bun where the top part was bunned and the bottom part wasn't in the bun at all

Some of them probably? I dunno at some point in the past I just googled different methods of tying and chose one I liked for daily. Simple twist into a bun type of thing. A lot of the resources will be geared towards girls, but hair is hair.

For hair a couple things you can try doing that don't involve getting it cut are Adding product (probably a sea salt spray or volumizing spray, you can get sample sizes from sephora) Blow drying Adding a part instead of tying it back (this is easiest to do when your hair is wet, if you let it dry while parted it'll stick with that orientation) There's always trial and error with this, you can try those and see if you like how your hair looks All of those are more effort than tying it back and letting it dry, but imo they're reasonable amounts of effort.
