is it normal for chunks to be showing up like this with distant horizon?
i dont know if i downloaded something wrong or if it is normal for distant chunks to load in like this

Seems about right for default, out of the box settings.
If you like them to look a bit nicer, you can increase the setting LOD Quality in Distant Horizons settings.
i have a pretty good pc do you think i could run extreme?
I have an i5-4570 and I run Extreme.
Go ham with it.

how long should i sit to let everything render
At 128, expect to wait for 15 minutes on average. Going a little higher, say 256, you will have to wait for an hour.
