DH not working at all. Followed the yt tutorial in dh-compatibility-faq but still nothing.

One big issue is that you’re using what seems to be 32 render distance. why?
It’s what I have been playing on prior to using the mod. I have fiddled with it but Doesn’t seem to change anything. What is ideal?
have you actually loaded the chunks for DH to show them ?
example picture left is not loaded but the right and middle is because the chunks has not been explored with DH yet
The ideal vanilla render distance for use with DH is maximum 16
Also since this doesn’t look like an iris-related issue you should ask in the DH discord. They will be of better help there as Iris deals with shaders
I sat quite a while to let them load but saw no changes. Do I have to actually visit all surrounding areas for dh to load those chunks? If so is there a way to play so that distant chunks are always loaded as well? I see this for YouTubers etc while they are exploring

Not in singleplayer
You only have to manually load the chunks on a server. Though you may also want to try Chunky out, as that will help load the DH chunks

you could try just flying in a straight line and the look back after a min or so and if you see far its working

Makes me wonder why you inexperienced modders are even trying to use this mod combination as if it's already finished, if you're not going to actually help test it and only complain that it doesn't work after following some badly made tutorial then don't even try to get it.

Was being so snarky necessary? Wasn’t complaining at all. Just interested in playing the mod as it interests me and not adept at troubleshooting so asked for some help. Might be time to grow up if all you want to do is take digs in online forums
I'm sorry, I'm just really irritated, they literally said don't ask for support on installing the mods if you can't get them to work. The youtubers that showcase these mods made a massive mistake when they started saying that this is such a great mod combination and then saying "go to iris discord to get the mods" because these aren't finished at all, things don't work, and people act as if they're finished and then report the same bugs 10 thousand times.
At this point I seriously am wondering why the testing of the mods isn't kept completely closed off, the amount of time wasted dealing with thousands of people who ask the same questions (don't read the faqs) and then still try to get the mods to work despite it clearly not working. It's appalling.
I understand they don’t work, but I’ve spent quite a few hours looking for someone on YouTube, reddit, etc with the same issue I’m having and haven’t found anything. The only reason I asked in a place like this is because I couldn’t find any solutions anywhere else, hence this not being a common issue it would seem. I’m fully aware this is beta and if it doesn’t work for me I’ll have to wait for the stable release, not wanting anything more than to check with someone who might know.
I also don’t understand why you let this bother you so much and you decide to be a source of negativity. Legit just don’t read people’s comments if they annoy you. It’s that easy, no one’s forcing you

Anyways, yes DH benefits from having a lower vanilla render distance as it is designed to wait until all the vanilla chunks rendered first before working on its chunks. Setting it to anything higher than 16 will slow down DH chunk generation by a lot. Something worth noting while playing around.

You shall really see the DH community about the issue,
since generating LODs is its work, not Iris's, at all.
Yet, from what I've seen, try lowering the vanilla render distance.
Crank UP the DH distance, to say 320 chunks or even more.
Try reloading the game a couple of times! and also
DON'T pause or ESC the game while waiting for DH to work.
just open the chat if you tab through apps, so MC doesn't pause
why not make a guide showing the correct way to use it then people wouldnt ask how after watching a bad guide

Have also asked in the DH discord but to no avail. I'll try with the lower distance and letting it load with just chat open, thanks. Solution I haven't yet tried

not really, started to load but the LOD chunks just remained super low quality. left it for a solid 10-15 minutes
if you want to skip the dh loading id just recommend downloading maps that were preloaded with chunky or preload them yourselves with chunky
